Wrasse out of qt and acclimation box.
None of the fish cared about the wrasse in the box but once released my Carpenter was flashing like mad for an hour or so. No nipping though and now its all calm.

These are really great photos.

I love the first one catching that “oh” facial expression haha. But the last one made me say “oh that’s cool!” out loud, beautiful coloration on that fish.

I’ve got another wrasse. Hint it’s blue but will become big and green.

But also….. How much were people paying for their pintails?

Nope :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Hint 2 its genus name means color of the sea and for this fish that really fits!

Hiding beneath the tub of sand

I thought it may have been a Thalassoma species, Thalassoma lunare?

Also out of curiosity, how nasty is Thalssoma lucasanum? It seems it’s one of the smallest of the genus only getting to 4” so I wonder if it’s a species that’s less likely to kill/terrorise every other wrasse.

I'm such a fool. I got basically the best acclimation box you can get but for some crazy dumb reason I decided the lunare looked sad and exposed (despite the tub of sand I added). So I decided to add this hollow fake rock decor I have to let it hide. Opened the lid and it was gone.

Good news is it’s eating and not bothered by the other fish. Bad news is many of the other fish are being aggressive to it. The melanarus, the hawk, and the maroon being the culprits. Unlike the Māori it does not care but also unlike the Māori it is tiny.

I think I said but when choosing my Thalassoma I got it down to lunare, lutescens and lucasanum. Lucasanum looks much prettier in real life then it does in photos. Really pretty and unique. However I've only ever seen a couple and both near full size. They seemed peaceful at the LFS but thats all I have seen. My LFS has a full size lunare in its big tank and I've never seen that be aggressive either but then that tank is mostly full of big beasts. I imagine for a Thal the lucas is relatively peaceful but no idea.

I ended up going with lunare because I found a healthy and small one and I think it is the prettiest both as a juvie and adult.

Edit: forgot to mention how insanely energetic this fish is. Never had a fish jump in the bag as much as this one on the way home.

So small and so fast but got some alright shots. Does seem like some fish like the new guy and luckily one of those is also the ruler of the tank. Sauron the dragon. (Ignore the GHA)

Nope
Get a more peaceful fairy. Almost any will do but Scott’s are notorious.
