The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

I will definitely try to remember common names - some are easy but others I don’t even know where they get their common name as it’s nothing like their scientific!
Well, my mermaid brain can come up with more fitting, fun, new names!

I want an earmuff sooo bad. Are they hard to come by? Compatible with melanarus?

Ohhhh boy!!! I'm gonna be making some trips to the LFSs around!
There were several stunning ones in stock yesterday, but they were all being "held for Emily".
I should have said I was Emily.

Omg that's like when I see a fish I'd love to have at my lfs - I swear they always say "on hold for Tom". Tom's my boss. At least I get to see the fish once they're in our office tank, lol!

I remember seeing a stunning CB regal in person and wanted it… it was reserved already.
I now know when I want a fish, I get that fish when I see it. The amount of wrasses I’ve seen that were beautiful - I’ve seen a mature male Pylei, I saw a mature male Roseafascia that was peaceful and even a pair of jordani’s. None of those wrasses made it into my tank because I was waiting until the next week to see if they were there and they got sold within that week.

So true! I'm the same way - I'd wait on a fish I wanted to observe it for a couple weeks... and sometimes it will still be there but most of the time they're taken by the time I decide to go back. What's driving me crazy though currently is my lfs has had a stunning mystery wrasse for like a month now! I'm assuming it's the price holding people back possibly... but if it's still there the next time I stop in, it's gonna be hard not to take it home lol.
You recently got a regal correct? Is it a cb one? It's beautiful.

They are around but not everyone brings them in. Adding to Mel could be tricky. Definitely have a back up plan
Gotcha, that's good to know. Probably not a great idea to try adding another halichoeres wrasse to an established adult male melanurus in a 75 I'd bet. I'd love to add one or two more wrasses if it would work - orange back fairy wrasse, yellow (or red tail) tamarin, or a leopard wrasse. Don't want to cause issues with my existing melanurus though.

The red tail is a stunning tamarin but unfortunately it isn’t on the Hawaiian list… I wish it was and do hope someone rewrites that list to add Anampses chyrsocephalus and Coris venusta

Bummer! I'm still also bummed that Dr. Reef was quarantining a yellow tail tamarin for me but it carpet surfed before they could ship it to me. :(
