Third time better be the charm

Glass cleaned. Carcass of the Cardinal was on the sandbed. If you lose a fish that is automatic permission to get a replacement, right? Things are looking better, still seeing loses on what was already affected but nothing new has started. thinking it may be the coral beauty nipping on the tips of the sps. video will be loaded in a few.

Softies are looking good. I'm experiencing similar issues with the sps in my big tank. Softies looking good and sps dying. I lost my largest acro colony to RTN despite me trying to cut the dead away.
It's really weird, for sure. Maybe the universe is telling me to just remove them to make room for new ones. :face-with-raised-eyebrow::smirking-face::winking-face:

Gotta get 2 just in case, I believe that's the rule.

Po has hit max levels 200 flashing on the Hanna. Dosed some Lanthium as a last resort. Likely pulling the GFO offline, removing too much chaeto (it was blocking the sump weir), and the cardinal death all contributed to pushing it over the threshold. I'm thinking the hi po is what's causing the issues with the sps as well. Dosed a "light" dose of lanthium into a fresh filter socks and will test again tomorrow.

It can be dangerous to fish so dosing into the skimmer is the safest way.
I don't think i fully understand this. If dosed into a sock it is easily removed. If you dose into your skimmer, does it go up into the collection cup? how do you keep it from going out the skimmer into the tank? And isnt the dwell time in the skimmer pretty short? Or is it like an instant Po4 binding and it takes no time at all so going directly to collection cup is ok? Asking because i've never used it or researched. I have high Po4 but its never really been an issue. i run a little gfo and it keeps it down around .3 instead of .6.

Not totally sure. Looks like if you use a filter sock it needs to be at least 5 microns.

As for a skimmer it’s just what I was told is the safest way. Sounds like it reacts pretty fast so I guess the skimmer just keeps it sucked in it or something.

Also sounds like Randy thinks it’s harmless but public aquariums stopped using it due to gill fears.

Been watching the fish no heavy breathing or flashing issues. Nothing abnormal that I can see. I didn't go full dose only did enough for 110g, 66 drops. I try not to dose normal with anything. I'd rather bring it down slowly, over longer time. Not sure how many micron my socks are either they are just the normal fuzzy ones you get online.

Couldn't take it any more and just pulled the birdsnest. Left a small chunk in just in case it makes a comeback. Next will likely be the purple stylo. Good news is the rainbow plate split. So I'll call it a win. Shelby got her first Bark box today. Now the kids are pooped I'm having dinner and starting a new book.

From my research, whatever someone in the humanities researching something int he hard sciences is worth, filter socks need to be really fine. 0.5 micron or less. It binds fairly quickly, dosing into the overflow or near the skimmer would give it plenty of time to bind to available po4. MY issue with dosing those locations is it needs to have access to po4 to bind, and they don't offer much water volume. So it could strip the skimmer compartment to 0 then the rest goes on it's merry way.

Dosing slowly into the overflow box would give plenty of time to bind, just gotta make sure it's slow enough to mix with water that has phos in it.

I dose into a high flow area in the display just before snowing the tank. It also binds to caco3, so I assume the snow pulls it out. I haven't had any problems with this method, but I also didn't have zebrasoma which seem to be the more sensitive tangs. For all my searching, I found no research on how LaPo4 interacts with gills or any other part of the fish. But I'm not done looking into it.

I have another try for you at Thanksgiving. Don't give up.

Not giving up just grumpy. The majority of things are fine. And the new med helps me to not sweat the small stuff as much as I would normally.

Good thing I didn't dose the full amount. This was the test this am. From flashing 200 yesterday at the same time. This leads me to think one of them is/ was wrong. Will not dose any more and retest tomorrow. Replaced the socks as well and will snow the tank tonight.
