Picked up a Sebae anemone last Saturday, it was pretty bleached in the store but as far as I was aware it could be revived with proper feeding. It never attached over the following two days before I headed out of town, but I was hoping I would return to find it attached. Unfortunately, when I got home it had not only stayed unattached, but was now sloughing skin from its foot. The rest of the anemone looked fine and was inflated properly. The sloughed material was a brownish color, so I decided to pull it into a quarantine tank for treatment. Unfortunately my LFS only had Maracyn 2, so that’s what I have been working with until Cipro arrives on weds. I’ve attached pictures on its progress below.

This was day one in the treatment tank, its mouth was closed tightly despite the deflation.

This was it almost 24 hours later. Its mouth is still closed, but it’s sloughing off a lot more skin, especially towards the top of the foot near the tentacles.

I'll be honest with you. The sloughing off of tissue anywhere other than the tentacles is usually beyond recovery. I wish you luck but I don't have high hopes.

Thanks for the honesty! It’s looking really good tonight, and the foot has regained some stickiness. But good to know for the future on the sloughing of non-tentacle areas!

The positive trend from yesterday has continued- below is a picture from after tonight’s water change. Cipro gets here tomorrow, so I’ll give it five days of that to make sure it’s in ship shape before it hits the DT again (assuming it continues to improve). The foot is almost entirely sticky, and the mouth has been closed properly for a few days now.

That's great to hear! Usually, once the tissue is coming off, there is no recovery. Glad to see this is working for you.

Thanks! Certainly not out of the woods yet, but trying to keep a positive attitude. And after some more research I'm unsure if it was actually skin sloughing off the foot or mucus/some other layer of something. It was a brownish color, but matches the consistency of the mucus the anemone was expelling for the first few days of treatment. I of course didn't take any pictures, so I unfortunately can't post them here for evaluation.

Update: I received the Cipro last Wednesday, and began treatment that evening. The nem has responded well, and the foot is now securely attached to a PVC end I placed in the tank with it. The PVC end is a little on the large side so it’s a bit awkward, but the nem doesn’t seem to care and has stayed put.

Unfortunately I locked myself out of my apartment on Saturday night and wasn’t able to get back in until Sunday, so I missed a water change/re-dose of Cipro, so I am going to keep it in treatment until at least this Saturday but I have a feeling it will be in treatment longer since it’s been deflating the last 2 days, and dropped a few tentacles yesterday.

I removed it from the basket once it attached to the PVC end so it could get more flow, which I think it appreciates. I am also starting to see the faintest color coming back to some of the tentacle tips past the purple which is exciting. Hoping it will stay inflated today and over the weekend!

It was doing great until I came in this morning, almost completely deflated and stomach was entirely out. It’s perked up a bit more, and is now “shedding” the foot again, so I was able to get a picture. It’s not amazing, but you can see that it’s a brown color and almost looks like a film. At this point it’s almost detached from the nem. It’s located in the top right, where the nem meets the wall of the PVC end

Any updates?
It was a roller coaster for a few days after my last post, it would improve for a few hours then decline sharply after water changes. Since the water changes seemed to be stressing it out, I moved it back to the display for stability. It’s been improving since, and has started to get a little tan color back. Here’s a pic of it today

You’re doing great! Keep with your plan and if you start to go backwards reach out. The ReefSquad here is amazing and will help you to get it properly acclimated when you’re ready to move it to the DT.

@Cheese Griller how is this nem doing? When it was in rough shape did it develop any tears in its foot?

I have one quarantining right now, It had a perfect looking foot when I got it, now its has developed tears on the foot all by itself. I am at a loss at what's going on at this point.

It’s doing fantastic, almost fully re-colored now. I’m currently fighting off a bryopsis outbreak, so getting a good pic of it is hard. While it was quarantining, I never saw any tears in the foot, just swelling and a lack of stickiness.
