I picked up a Monti yesterday and when I went to put it in the tank I felt this underneath. Feels like a leather coral but since it's growing underneath I'm guessing it's a tunicate or sponge? Never had anything like this before if someone could help me ID. Next question is any suggestions on how I mount the Monti without super glueing and kill this thing? I'm guessing the Monti will eventually encrust and close this thing in and it will eventually die.

Sponge.
The sponge will likely grow back.
