I just picked up this ATO because I may be going on a ... lets just say extended vacation for a few months. I'm letting a family member who is not a hobbyist but is very reliable take my tank for me while I'm gone.

Also looking for a good pellet auto feeder, any suggestions?

Plus any other suggestions on making the tank more user friendly so he won't kill it?

What about a controller to turn your light off and on and to keep and eye on temp?

I currently have all the lights on timers and the temp seems ok as it is, why are controllers so popular? I guess I'm not sure why they are so beneficial.

Don't know if you will have computer access, but I second the controlloer suggestion. They are somewhat spendy. However, when I am gone I can remotely monitor and control all aspects of the tank.

The Ehiem 3581 fish feeder is one of the best. Easy to setup and refill.

How will yo ube dosing your two part or kalk? Not only does a computer help with dosing and automation. But the best part is the ability to set up fail safes. IE if your tank is running hot. It can turn off your lights. If you PH is too high. You probably dont want to dose any alk or kalk to the tank. Etc...

I dont dose anything, I figure the 20% water change twice a month keeps my levels in parameters. I can see the fail safe point of view however.
