I've been told they do best with odd numbers. I ordered 7, one didn't make it thru acclimation and one was found a day later on a power head. So I have 5 in my tank now. These guys are so small, you can fit a lot in a small area. For a little 3 gallon pico a 5-7 sized group would be just fine.
Yes, I have two porcelain crabs in the tank. They are peaceful crabs and do not bother the sexys. I do think they got into a little dispute between the two crabs tho, as one is missing a claw. The crabs will claim an anemone to be its home, and will defend said anemone from other crabs and even clownfish, but they almost always lose if the clown is determined. I have 10 rock flowers so there is plenty of room for two. I was hoping for a male/female combo, but I'm pretty certain I got a female/female. In a little pico, I'd only get one.
There's also a pistol shrimp that came with the gobies, but he stays in the bottom of the tank under the rock. Eventually I'll get him some friends to hang out with.

The mangroves are doing well on their floating foam island. Roots are growing noticeably daily. No progress on the top side yet, but at least we have root growth!

My girlfriend's tank has 3 small chromis and 2 angels. A C. nox and a C. bicolor. The chromis are out all day, and the angels only come out if you walk away. We've started feeding them a nori sheet one day, then frozen the next and it seems to have worked on getting them to come out more. That tank is back in the mostly unused office, so they don't get much interaction. This tank, and my 90 are both in the living room so they get TV noise and a bunch of faces stuck to the glass if we ever have company. The 90 is mostly used to people and doesn't care. These little guys are still skittish around company, but they recognize me.

Bad news everyone, Pyre isn't doing well. I've been sick all week so I haven't paid attention to the tanks. I'm not sure if this has been going on for a few days or developed today. He's really lethargic, doesn't respond to food and can be caught by hand altho he will swim away if allowed to. I dont see any signs of disease, but he's got a few torn fins and some light spots on his side like he's missing a few scales. I'm afraid Blaze may have gotten a little rough with him.
I've got a QT tank set up, just waiting on water to warm up before I transfer him over.

Pyre didn't make it thru the night. No signs of disease with Ember or Blaze, but I'll keep a close eye on them to be sure.

I have two that are fighting for the same hole in the rock, but yes they are open all day. At night they do close up but are open when the sun comes in the window.

How're things goin in the Menagerie... well, I'm long overdue for a water change and I need to decide on some sort of carbon for water clarity. Other than that tho everything is great. I cut one of my ricordea, and moved the mother. I think it was getting too much light as it has faded a bit. I moved it down a little bit from where it was. Doing this, I noticed it has grown into 3 mouths and one was almost detached. I cut it with a scalpel as its foot was not attached to anything after moving the piece and placed it in a cup with some small rocks.
The mangroves continue to grow ever so slowly. I'm still not sure how I'll integrate these into the rock work just yet. They still need to grow some more before that happens. One looks like it's about to sprout tiny leaves soon and start to grow. The other may be right behind. Roots continue to develop.

Tank maintenance day. No pics of actual maintenance but I can tell you want was done, and post some after pictures.
We mixed up our 44g brute can yesterday and adjusted the Calcium and Alkalinity because Turtle forgot our salt mixed at 8.0 and the Fairy Tail is now at 9.0. I'll talk about that more over there.
We used our el cheapo 150gph utility pump and pumped out all but 2" of water in the display. I left the water in the back chamber, only because it is difficult to get the pump back there without making a mess. After that we filled the tank back up with fresh mixed Brightwell Neomarine adjusted to 420ppm Ca and 9.0dKH alk.(again, for the Fairy Tail) We use the old Innovative Marine 200gph pump that came with this tank and a long hose to reach across the living room.
While the water was low, I took a magic eraser and cleaned up the rim of the glass. Got all that crud and salt creep off.
After that we decided it was time to incorporate the mangroves into the rocks. I still have some of the foam to keep them floating, but the roots are pretty secured into the rocks. Once they get into a more permanent upright position, I'll cut away the foam.
The last thing I did was clean the outside of the glass with some Rain-X water repellent. You need to be really careful and not get this in the tank, so I spray the bottle into a paper towel, wrap the paper towel around the nozzle so it doesn't spray everywhere, then wipe it onto the glass.
The tank is so super clean now, look like a new tank. Blaze and Ember appreciate being able to see the TV much clearer now.
