Found my new 2" watchman goby inside the inner chamber of my skimmer!. The only possable way into that chamber is through the 1/4" intake of the pump! He went in the suction of the pump and through into the skimmer. Had to remove the skimmer and unattach the pump to retrieve him. Put him up top again. Wow. Then a day later guess who did it again. Gotta block that tiny intake. Unbelievable.

He's gotta be going in backwards. I'm not familiar with skimmers but isn't there an over flow/out flow?

Look at the second pic. The dark colored tube is the pump. The red peice is a plastic disc with little holes. He can't get through. The only way into that chamber is the pump.

What kind of pump is this? Does it have a needle wheel impeller? If so, it's impossible that's how he gets in...

The skimmer is an sca-301 65gal. I'm not sure if it's a pinwheel or not. But trust me when I tell you there is no other way into that chamber

I have that same skimmer and it has a needle wheel impeller. Short needles though. So it could sneak past the impeller if it was really careful. I noticed you didn't modify your skimmer pump outlet. There is a mod to cut that pump outlet short so the bubbles have more distance to expand out and create a wall of bubbles. I did it and the skimmer works like a champ.

Didn't knoe. How do you mod it? And what exactly does it help? The skimmer seems to work good. The skimmTe is ail wet but. Consistant anyway.

I never ran it with the pipe uncut, so I don't specifically know how it improves the function. Look up SCA-301 mods and you should find it. There are a couple threads sprinkled around the interwebz about it. I can get a really dry skimmate if I try, but that makes it harder to clean.
