Hello reefers,
My last post somehow ended up without so I am reposting.
i have this hammer coral which won’t extend its polyps.
Everything else in the tank is opening, but this one is unhappy.
Before it was on weaker flow and I tried moving it but that’s not the cause.
so what happened is that I excidently dropped in salinity 28-29ppt.
To correct it I used salt water as topoff.
Idiot me forgot that my salt (Red Sea coral pro) is very high in major elements , So I ended up with massive surplus of ca and mg.
My parameters today:
Salinity 35ppm
Alk 11 -stable, dosing it to keep it at 11
Mg- 1590 - approximately, off the chart on my test
Ca -520 - again approx, off the chart
My idea was to just ride it out and let parameters come down naturally since everything else is ok, including hammer next to it.
do you guys think that’s a good idea or should I intervene? I could do a water change but I am afraid additional swings might stress it even further?
Thanks for suggestions
