So I received my UV light fron 3D Reefing "Moe K ". Moe I hope you received my email if not I very much appreciate everything. So now I am going to start using it to battle hopefully algae and Dinos. After watching a video by Rich Ross, I bought a marineland " polisher " and installed it along with 18 snails of three different types 6 of each, along with a tuxedo Urchin. It dissappeared after 2 days for about 4 days then reappeared but stayed in one spot. Yesterday I put a light on it and the shell was hollow. Any input there? just have bristle worms no fish ect that would attack it would the bristle

worms? Anyway someone asked for my parameters

Salifert:
Phosphate .1- .25
Ammonia .15
PH 8+
API
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10

So will start with now pictures and update as I go along. Any and all input welcome

I would adjust/add more flow and change/add carbon to filters to polish the water quality- from the photos it seems like the bottom isn't getting enough flow and seems a bit stagnant? But regular water changes and the UV sterilizer won't hurt in addition

I have quit a bit of carbon filtering going on. Lots of flow through main pump. Change water weekly maybe sometimes bi weekly if I am lazy. At least 40 gallons. I thought of directing the power heads on to the sand. I will post a picture and also may add UV light but I have to put one enclosed in line as I found if exposed ( an LED light anyway ) encourages algae growth in the sump. First its a plumbing challange huge I used PVC solid pipe. Also just purchased one for my RO system which was suggested to me by another member. While I was looking I was taken back by the cost of one that handles a large GPM . So any suggestions there? I am certainly open to the idea. Back to the flow on the sand it certainly moved the sand around BUT wondering if I just stirred all the bad stuff from the top into all the sand? I dont know. So if you can give me a name of a manufacturer of a light that does not cost 3-5 hundred as I saw would appreciate it. Or also what an idea of GPM of a return pump is it a pretty complicated calculation to my mind

I got the TMC Vector 850. It does 674 GPH for $245. It was the best deal with the best reviews I could find.

It is huge though. About 24 inches long.

I am not sure what size your tank is but mine is 43g and I wanted to make sure I had adequate GPH.

It has worked wonders for me. I had been adding pods prior to hooking it up. I am about 95% clear.

Mine wasn’t as bad as yours but was pretty close.

Only issue is I bought the Vector from a company in Oregon and the wildfires slowed down the deliver and it took a good week to get here.

If you need a bigger GPH, I couldn’t find anything that had decent enough reviews for a cheaper price.

I also noticed that UVs are rarely sold in the marketplace and people seem to keep them.

Good luck!

Wow I don't think I need More than that. I will try and find it. My problem is that I am in Canada. Amazon is my necessary go to if I buy from lets say Bulk Reef Supply I have to pay duty taxes for here and the biggest is brokerage fees it adds at least 1/3 on top plus and not meant as a political thing just factual who knows what the threatened tariffs will do since its not just your guy who is going to do it its here too as a retaliation tactic.

They have smaller sizes for cheaper.

I was wondering if you could send a picture of your UV light install. I need to know a few things ie if it needs pressure to operate, full flow through tank recycling pump or if installed seperate. I was in the piping trades so have the tools and know how to install it if you cant get a picture a detailed explanation will at least help. It would be very much appreciated

Here it is. I used zip ties bc them dang close clamps suck trying to get them close. I have some metal ones on the way that I can screw tighten.

Unfortunately my sump wasn’t designed for a UV so I put it on the outside.

I used tubing from the rerun pump and spliced it in.

I am going to hard plumb in it when we get moved.

Thank you I had an idea you might se if you can do it. I was going to mount it on a board with hinges attached to my stand so I can swing it out of the way when I do maintenance

Looks good to me. What did you do put in a tee?

Nope. I ran a 3/4 tube with a check valve from the pump to the intake of the uv, then ran a a similar set up from the other end to the return bulkhead.

I also have another set up with just tubes and check valves that I can run from my bulkhead to my return pump.

We are moving in a few months and I will hard plumb it when I get settled. This was a temporary semi-permanent solution for now.

Works great so far.

That is actually what I am going to do when I plumb my new sump.

I am going to do a 40g breeder sump and put it on a board that is connected to the sump with a few ball valves one for a UV and non-UV return.

Going to use nice colored pvc and have it where I can reach everything with out bending and contorting my body.

Coming up in 50 and gravity and tight spaces aren’t as kind to me as they used to be.

Why the check valves?

Why the check valves?
So when I take them off the water stays. I think it’s a check valve. It’s the one where it only works with flow one way.
When I take the hose off the water doesn’t suck back down or move. I just count it in the tank.
