I’m starting to suspect it could be a stress response to aggression. The fox face at minimum is definitely not happy. I think at this point if it was ich or velvet it would be in much worse condition by this point.

Maybe try mirrors and readjusting the rockscape to see if they will back off to give it a chance to settle in.

I’m not a disease expert so let’s see what the experts say.

Really?! I figured he's the happiest! He's the one that eats out of my hands and always greets me when I come in. I know the purple tang is the "boss" but I wouldn't think he's the aggressor. Or are you thinking parameters are out of wack?

Going by the little bit of video I saw the foxface and purple tang flashing at the hippo. Aggression is usually worse when we’re not around. That’s what made think that.

Parameters you posted are ok as long as they are stable.

Also, a 108 gallon tank is on the small size for these tangs, less even for having two so I’d expect some degree of aggression.

Try at least mirrors trick. That’s always worked for me and is minimally invasive.

Even though the hippo tang is only 2.5 inches? The purple is even smaller than that and my lfs said they're generally pretty good in 100 gallon or so. I will gladly re-home though if this is due to aggression

I’d say they can do ok in 100 gallon especially if it’s long and has plenty of swim space.

I don’t know of this is fact but from my experience they need an amount of space/territory that doesn’t change much as they grow. Keep in mind these are normally schooling fish so their behavior gets messed up in aquariums. They respond in different ways as the environment changes and they mature.

If it is aggression and you can’t get them to cool of you may have to consider rehoming. Best thing to do is to record a video while you’re not in the room. That’s the best way to know what’s really happening. Also those hippos get easily stressed so it may be minor but its body is overreacting. Again this is my thinking but I’m not a disease expert. I don’t want to lead you down this path when medication would be the right next step.

Absolutely! Well I sincerely appreciate the input anyways. I never really had to deal with ich last go around I did this or any disease for that matter. Not sure if it was dumb luck or what but I'm in it now

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

If you can post a video of the tang, I might be able to better predict how the "Ich Management" might go for you. I wrote up a post on this topic, it will take more work than just adding a UV sterilizer though:

I added a couple more photos and some videos now. Hopefully have a better view of it.

Sorry - I looked at the videos last night, but they were inconclusive - the fish was moving too fast and it was too far away to tell how many spots were on the fish.

Still no other fish in the tank showing spots?

Not that I see no. Just the blue tang.

I would think if it’s a disease at this point the remaining fish would be showing some symptoms.

I believe there are medications you can use in the DT to prevent infections. So if those are skin irritations maybe you proactively treat to minimize risk of infection. I’ve only dealt with disease once in 30 years so I can’t offer much there.
