Hey everyone! I’m looking to start my first saltwater tank. I know nothing about this, I’ve always had fresh. Like literally nothing, don’t know what temp i should run, what equipment I need, what a skimmer is, nothing. I have a loooong ways to go but am excited to get going. I have a 360 gallon tank I want to turn into a reef tank. I want fish, shrimp, corals, anemones, starfish, clams, oysters, you name it! Assuming what I get is compatible of course. Anyways, I’m really looking forward to learning about this, I have about a billion questions and a ton of reading to do. Considering getting a 30 gallon kit or something simple just to get a tank up and running to take the edge off. I could eventually use it as a qt and med tank, so if anyone has any suggestions on a good kit like that please fire away.

Just take your time and a quarantine tank is a must for a tank that big. I have a 280 with a 300 gal sump/refugium and I learned the hard way. It gets super expensive to treat that much water for sickness/parasites. I say again always, always, always quarantine fish and Coral. Before putting in your display tank I don't care if it is the first one. Now That I have stressed QT I would suggest watching videos at Bulk Reef Supply /BRSTV they have become a good place to get info. Since you have experience with fresh water I also would suggest you cycle your tank with mollies they are cheap and you can leave them in your tank. Plus I tell everyone one the time you take acclimating them to saltwater is about the time I use for all live stock. They are very peaceful and do eat algae.

I see from your post you are doing a bit of reading
Keep looking at build threads and see what people are doing and it doesn’t hurt to ask questions most people here would be glad to give you a answer (and then do research on that answer)
Good luck on the build looking forward to seeing it
As for the 30 gallon tank look for a used jbj or redsea “all in one” tank they are not that expensive used look on craigslist Facebook forums etc
