Hello, I am taking advantage of some of the black friday sales this past few days. I am planning on getting an IM Lagoon 50 or the SR60 AIO tank. I ended up buying two MP-10's but realized afterwards that they only support glass up to 9.5mm and the SR60 is 10mm. Will this be an issue? I see on etsy that they have holders that you can buy to support the dry side. Should I upgrade to two mp40's and return the mp10's? Or will the MP40's have too much flow? Just looking for suggestions on what to do. TY!

I have the MP10s on 10mm glass, absolutely no issues, definitely keep the 10s if going soft/ lps, especially as in a lagoon the hight will limit the power you can have them, but if going for sps and only wanting 2 powerheads then yes I would swap to the 40s…but another option albeit more expensive is to start with the 10s for now and as the tank fills out add another two 10s or something else later, but only if going heavy on sps.

If this was just mixed reef with some SPS longterm would the two MP10's be enough? Or maybe go with one MP10 and one MP40?

two 10s will be more than enough for a mixed as with a mixed you are still going to be tuning the flow to the most delicate corals the lps…if money is not an issue then always better going bigger with powerheads as you can always turn them down which means less wear and less noise and if you move to a bigger tank they can go with you, obviously the 40s will look bigger in the tank so consider that…if in doubt get the 40s.

Have you decided on a tank yet? So many factors to consider…just thought of another, the modes on the MPs are only fully activated when at a high enough speed, think its around 30/40% power, if below that setting you will be restricted to only 1 or 2 modes, so basically a constant speed, not Reefcrest mode for example.

Its a toss up between the innovative marine sr60 or the 50gallon lagoon. I really like that size as this will be my first fishtank ever.

Sand or no sand, if sand that would reduce the power you can have them on too…if my tank, if I had the lagoon I would keep the 10s, if I had the sr60 I would go with the 40s.

I am going to go with sand on the tank. I appreciate all of the insight!
