I got burned on my last LED, or more specifically my corals did, and you would not believe me if I told you the brand. Since then I have switched to a Reef Breeders V1 16". Even though everyone seems happy I decided not to take any chances and try to approximate the spread of t5s with the power and efficiencies of LEDs. As a result I am experimenting with diffusers.
Currently I am using a cutting of a prismatic lighting pannel and according to my Seneye it is working. The prime real estate, for Acros, saw about a 40% decrease in light, while corals a little further out from center saw a lesser decrease, 20-30% drop. When I bumped my lights up, this really evened out the playing field. Areas that looked shaded now are partially illuminated!
Here's the questions... who is using diffusers on their LEDs? What material gets the job done with minimal loss of light? What is the ideal distance between the light and diffuser? What other best practices do you all have to share? Thanks everyone!
