Mom is from Mexico and Dad is from Guatemala.

So do you speak Spanish or Portuguese? Or just English? I have 2 friends that are foreign exchange students from Brazil and it's cool to hear them speak n Portuguese, even though it is really similar to Spanish which is what I speak.

I can speak/read all three and I can write in Spanish/English. I wouldn't say that I am 100% fluent in Spanish or Portuguese but close to it.

You can fly to my house and stay over for a month or two. Heck, you can even come to my church, preach a few sermons so you don't spend too much time away from your job:D. I guarantee you'll be able to speak Spanish in no time! You'll love our home-cooked Mexican food.
Seriously though, if you have a Community College near you that would be a great place to start. Do you have any Hispanic friends? When a friend of mine hangs around me long enough they tend to pick up some words and phrases. You can also change the language(if you have dish) to Spanish and watch cartoons. They have a lot of easy to understand language and can really help you. When my cousin came from Mexico he only watched TV in English and he learned a lot from watching shows(mostly cartoons) in English rather than Spanish.
Give it a try! You dropped all that weight, learning to speak Spanish should be a breeze for you. :)
