Ok here's the deal-

I've been extremely, I mean EXTREMELY bored recently. I come home, and I have nothing to do. I need something to do!

I already read a lot so that's not a option, and it gets boring to me when I get home at 4-5 and read till 10-11, so I need something else to do.

I don't play video games anymore, they get boring, and I honestly find no enjoyment in them, I don't know how anyone can sit for HOURS and play games that aren't real, lol.

I don't have a reef tank any more, so I can't sit and stare at it.

I do a lot of photography on the side, and I will go out and take pics every day, but then again,it gets SOOOOO boring to me as when your taking pictures of the same thing, every day.

I don't watch a ton of tv either, there is never anything good on anymore, so again, it's not a option.

So, my question to you is, what do you do, when you get bored? Eat? Sleep? Etc?

Learn a new program, Photoshop, illustrator, final cut, or 3d like Maya or cinema 4d

I know photoshop basics, lol

And to be honest, I don't have the pacients to sit and learn a program, lol

Learn MORE about Photoshop! It's said that there are 5 people, in the entire world, who know everything there is to know about Photoshop. Those 5 were the people who developed Photoshop. Become #6.

Try a different style of photography.

Develop a "theme of the day" at random. Go for a walk and only take photos that fit into that theme.

Go for a walk and count your steps. Every 200 steps, stop and take a photo of something "red" or something "square" It'll make you have to stop, look and think.

Only use one lens, at one range, that you've picked in advance. For instance, pic 85mm, shutter speed of 120 and aperture of 14. Now, do all of the above, but only with these settings. It'll make you think about your photography, a lot. You'll have to find something to photograph, that fits all of your requirements.

That's interesting! I have done the one lens one setting exsersize form photography. Pretty fun!

ummm, maybe your just a boring guy, one that is complacent about the things in life that make us all happy. i'm perfectly happy in the hobby's I have, not to mention my children. For one to say, basically life is boring, then you come to an internet site to ask what other people do is kinda boring, isn't it? How anyone that loves something say, i'm bored. it's not your calling. you obviously need to find something new to do, but that's your job, not ours to find or suggest for you. If we suggest things, you will just knock them down, so why bother. you will not be happy unless you figure it out yourself.

Your right, I am a pretty boring guy, but even the most boring people in life can be happy, Im not saying Im not happy, just bored after I get home. If you actully met me, I am a pretty cool and easy to get along with guy, maybe a little annoying, but every one, at one point, is annoying. :)

I as well, am happy with the hobby that I have, photography plays a major part in my enjoyment since I got out of reefing. I may not be the best at it, but I still enjoy it and like to do it. Im improoving my skills as well, new canon 7d, 70-200 f/2.8 IS lenses, 24-70 f/2.8L lenses, Im getting there, I may not be as good as Gary, but I will get better as time goes on!

The reason that I come to this site is, for one, I trust the people on this site, its family oriented, and for most of all, I have a respect for Rev, no matter what. Hes a good guy, so there for, I have the same respect for his site and the people who browse his site.

Another reason, I come to the internet to ask what people do when they are bored, is beause there are a ton of small things that I havent ever heard of that other people have, that they cam share with me. I am always wanting to learn somthing new, or pick up a new skill.

Sorry if I offended you, Im not wanting to argue with anyone, just here to talk with nice people about fun things to do while bored, haha...

Thanks for your responce to my thread though. No harsh feelings taken, but maybe be a little bit nicer next time?lol

Teach yourself or learn from youtube and books an art of some sort like painting, drawing, playing an instrument of some kind, etc. Sketching is always fun to me when i'm bored. Requires a pencil, a mind, and paper.

Sounds like you have a bit of free time so how about volunteering some time at a local charity. Helping others in need always makes me feel better and puts my life back into perspective.

I actully like that idea! We dont have any local charities around here, but we do have other things similer that are just local facilities I could porssibly look in to!

Go fishing man!!!! Since I lost my job that's about the only thing I can afford now since it only cost me gas and time... Been really fun and the fall bite has been great... Not to mention I now have a hobby with my son..1smile1

+1 !!
Nothing will give you more satisfaction than volunteering.

Or you could drive over this way and help me finish my projects on the house so I can set another tank up again...lol

I checked and it's only 810 miles....

Honestly I would love to trade a few days of boredom and you can have the crazy that it my normal day...;)

Bored huh? I like the charity idea. If you have so much spare time, go find a charity. Every town has some sort of charity, even if it is doing photography for a local non-profit and doing some graphic design for them since you are good with this stuff...

If you want to bend the norm, find something you have never done and try it. Try rock climbing, different fishing, camping, hiking, dig a hole and plant a tree, skydiving, learn to fly a plane, etc... There are so many things that are different and out of the norm that you could never be bored. You just need to be willing to think out of the box a little.

Now I do have the 100% solution to the "I have too much spare time and am bored" dilemma. Get married and have a kid. Free time then becomes a blessing that happens only for short periods of time and then most of the time you have other stuff that must get done ;) Not saying its a bad thing, Just that I can tell you with a 7 year old and a 10 month old I have forgotten what free time and boredom feels like...

By the way if you want some charity work, I have some wedding photos that are still in need of some editing that I haven't had a chance to get to... ;)

I turn wood. I make wood bowls ,ink pens, christmas ornaments, ect. I turn pens and give them to our wounded troops to write home. I also do a lot of vol. work.
