Hey reefers!

This thought recently popped into my head, and I would like to hear your thoughts on it. What is one thing you wished existed in the hobby? It could be anything to do with this hobby. Wether it's a mix of 2 fish, a mix of 2 corals, a type of macroalgae, a piece of technology, or whatever you can think of, I want to here it!

Mine would definitely be the April fools joke from Biota.

Though, I do like the idea of technology like power heads and lights to self adjust to your tanks needs.

I also really like the idea brought up above about manta rays. That would be awesome.

1/ A jack of all trades snail that eats all pest algae’s … All of them

2/ a species of invertebrate or fish that eats Xenia (and possibly GSP and other pest corals)

3/ I also have to agree with having a lighting and wavemaker system that automatically functions according to the tank species and needs—-that would be amazing

A solution to all pest and disease problems that will rid your tank of whatever you need forever. That is reef safe. Lol

A well established aquascaping society like the freshwater IAPLC - I think we could all benefit from having a group of amazing artists help elevate reef tank ecosystems and scapes.
I though about it when I started with reef tanks, but few years into coral growth, I could careless how aquascape looks, coral it self creates aqua scape. Rocks don't grow in fresh water. That's why it was more important to have aquascape done right in fresh water tank.

Couldn't disagree more. :)

From an aquascaping perspective coral is just a slow growing plant and that's super important to scaping. However maybe your point was that freshwater relies a lot on rock formations to build around, whereas reef wants it only as a foundation. On that I agree!
All the same principles can exist in reef scapes including the use of SPS, LPS and importantly macroalgae. Is it the same challenge? Of course not - Reefs present all their own unique challenges but that's why I wish experienced scapers and aquarists would band together to provide better and better examples and guidelines for us all to build from.

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
