what kinda corals can u keep under pc ?

Traded some corals for a 14g Bio cube and gave it to a friend ..what kinda corals can u keep under stock lighting?

Was hoping to put z-p and chalices..Maybe a few encrusting montis

I think you will be fine with everything but the Monti's

I've kept and grown everything under pcs...a huge spectrum of corals. I run an 11gall ViaAqua as a small bank tank since 2003. I've literally kept the most light demanding species under it (corals I've collected in ankle deep water on the equator!)

That said...I despise pcs. LOL What a miserable and inefficient form of lighting. :D The bulbs have to be changed every 4-6 months for best results, their performance plummets faster from new than any other reef lamp types commonly used. Just awful. Yet still I use them in an ongoing effort to prove that they can work and helping me compare results with other new lighting that comes out each year and experimented with against my LEDs, T5s, VHOs and natural sunlight (in the greenhouse)

i also have kept many corals under pc, including acros and montis...you just have to place them high in the aquarium. but, pcs are not ideal.

I've got a few acros and montis in my BC14 as well, although the PC lighting is supplemented with a few LED stunner strips.

Yeah i agree that with most SPS they really need stronger lighting...mostly everything else you mentioned would be ok though

+1 to the no sps in this tank, however I you try, they better be at the top right under the light!

I've kept them all including sps no problems... Gotta keep the water quality high and clear and there should be no problems.... I never kept a tort but I have kept slimers, birdsnest, montis etc... Even bleached a digi pretty bad... Pcs put out a lot of light there just not efficient or Eco friendly I should say they waiste a lot of energy and heat on them selves...

It's been a long time since I've ran Compact Fluorescents, but ran them over a 46 bowfront, 2X96 watts. I kept a Rose Bubble Tipped Anemone, for several years. Lots of Zonathids, Acans, Echinophyllia, and even a few SPS. I kept Montipora caps (2 different colors) an encrusting Montipora and an Acropora valida. Everything did just fine and kept it's color quite well.

Another note. As Anthony said, PC lighting is terribly inefficient. Also keep in mind that more and more vendors are discontinuing PC bulbs, as they're becoming obsolete. Before too much longer, you won't be able to find replacement bulbs! Time to start looking for an alternative lighting fixture, IMO. Unfortunately, this is a bit difficult, with the smaller Nano systems, without having to make the leap to MH! I'm in a similar boat, right now, as I want to replace a 150MH Sunpod, over Angie's 24 gallon Aquapod, with a T5 fixture. Unfortunately, there are very few quality 20" T5 fixtures, and even fewer quality bulbs, in the 20" length, to choose from.

I gutted the hood and put a couple Ecoxotic panorama modules in my BC14 and it is a world of difference, and the leds will pay for themselves in 2 years if you take into account constantly having to change the crappy pc bulbs that come standard.
