for the past 15 years I was out of the hobby, I’ve been looking how to start this thread today. I decided to get going on it. First of all I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Manny . i’m from Miami Florida. I used to have a 180g which most of it. I built myself. I’m here today because I decided to get back in the hobby so I took a plunge and got me a small cube 20 x 20 x 25 tank with a rear overflow. My experience with reef keeping in the past. I used to build sumps and calcium reactors I used to own my own shop due to the recession. I had to close and sell it.different times different everything but I would like give this tank a try ,Don’t wanna get something. Big. Don’t wanna get too complicated but knowing me, I’m already looking for how many things I can fit under the stand. and how many parts I will make myself

question What would you do? If you had a shop like mine capable of making anything? If you guys have any ideas? I’m open for any suggestions?

I’m totally new at it again. I know what I want. I know what I’m going to make which is the regular display tank, and I will have a separate sump from a small refusion. Also, a calcium reactor is a must, carbon reactor or some kind of carbon somewhere and kalkwaser., and I will have separate from a small sump a refugium.

please let me know drop any suggestions or links. Anything you guys could think it could help me. Try to see what will be the best way to start a small new tank with 90% DIY. Here’s some pictures of my shop. Looking forward for your opinion.thanks

I don't know if I can use this link here please let me know

Here is the beginning of the stand

if you have the ability to work with acrylic, I think the most awesome design would be a shallow cylinder tank. That has always been my dream, but cost prohibitive to an extent. Thinking a 4-6 foot diameter, ~18 inch tall cylinder with a center overflow that contains both the drain and return lines, using multiple returns to create a whirlpool flow from the center, and perhaps with alternating return pumps to reverse the whirlpool periodically... there's just something super sweet about a shallow but round tank, essentially gives fish unlimited swimming trajectories. I saw a tank similar to this in the past, it also had a lighting rack hung from the cieling that slowly rotated which was the cherry on top...
