Why Did You Join Reef2Reef?

You coulda just been a lurker here forever, but you decided to sign up for a R2R account. Why is that?

I want to talk with and learn from other Reefers, and help out if I can. Admittedly I was a heavy fb user before I came here. But over the years, that all morphed into sales posts and arguments. So I was pleasantly surprised to see that R2R actually has many ongoing civil conversations to participate in!

To be a part of an amazing community and to help fellow reefers!

As an addition, it’s actually because of the Facebook reef discussion groups that I actually got rid of Facebook all together. It’s a garbage pit of misinformation and no matter how hard you try those discussions turn into wildfire. I figured people would see that for them selfs and turn to real help from prestigious forums like R2R.

I don't do social media but enjoy R2R. I joined to see other systems and find corals for sale.
I also enjoy growout contests.

Initially, I made an account to thank @Turbo's Aquatics for providing such a comprehensive acrylic fabrication guide! — the effort he put into it served to make my first attempt at a watertight solvent weld successful!

Then, I decided to start discussing my other ideas… getting feedback, helping others with their designs, and enjoying being part of the discussions I could contribute to!

It’s been a great time, and I’m relearning years of forgotten knowledge (along with a LOT of new information) as I dive back into the hobby!

Thanks for putting up with my unorthodox ideas, everyone!

When I was jumping back into the hobby, my google searches kept bringing me here. I finally decided to join and then become a supporting member. I honestly feel like it’s the best and most friendly reefing forum out there!

In search of information. Reef Central wasn't cutting it and I don't do any social media like insta, FB etc and I'm not a fan of YouTube for the most part so I landed here.

EDIT: The moderating here is second to none keeping things civil and is one if the things that's keeps me here. I'm glad to have gathered enough information along the way to help others every once in a while.

I was a member of reefcentral back in the day, but had to take a break. When I came back it was a ghost town over there and found here was much more active.

I’ve been on R2R since 2013 having all of my problems solved by others… BTW, Thank You!
It only took 12 years until I felt comfortable enough to start trying to pay it forward and help others. I’m a slow learner.

Like most of y’all, I’m not a fan of social media, and it’s nice to talk to like minded , no drama folks that I can learn from and share my experience with!

I asked one question on Facebook about my overflow and was told I was an idiot and my design wasn't a "bean animal" and blah blah blah. So I just kinda gave up for a small period, let my tank fall into disarray, then found R2R, and I got my first acro frags a couple weeks/months ago and noticed I got some encrustation going on with 3 out of 4 now! The general public of social media generally turns to hate speech and the niche few on a niche orriented site seem to be nice and friendly. I attribute all my success to the patience and generosity of this forum.

I joined so that I could be bullied and embarrassed into experience in the hobby.

I joined as I was starting a new reef and had little idea what I was doing. Learnt a phenomemal amount here.
Also wanted a place where I could ask questions and get good advice. There is no doubt that the advice is good, but the questions often get lost in the flood and I have found you have to work hard to get the questions noticed and answered. That is a bit disheartening.
Now I try to chime in to help others with the little knowledge I've picked up.
