Same anemones, different parts of the day. They liked to move.

The one on the top right looks massive, I thought mine was big being 6-7 inches lol. Mine has never bubbled up, even at the lfs. Since put in the tank, about 5 months ago, it hasn't moved more than an inch or 2 from the rock it planted itself on. I've changed the scape a few times moving the rock that it's on to different places. Never a bubble.

It's only a 13 gallon tank so it looks really big.

I was wondering if anyone has done a comparison of how different types of flow affect the BTAs. I've seen some tanks that have a very quick sloshing back and forth type of flow, which seem to have a more bubbly nems. (@Lasse has tanks with this type of flow) While other tanks have more of a long duration surge flow which to me seems to result in a stringier nem. Any thoughts?

I use a gyre in my 75ish bowfront on one side 30% max on random, with the bta on the far side.
Had it max on 50% with the bta in the center of the tank. Haven't really noticed a difference. The bta has grown about an inch since I changed it.

It's only a 13 gallon tank so it looks really big.
Didn't even pay attention to the tank size

What I noticed about my rose bubble tip was it kept its bubble tips for 4 months until I adding sps and upped the flow in tank. RBTA started loosing bubble tips and it’s tentacles lengthened . My lighting stayed the same so I think the flow had everything to do with mine changing .. changed within 2 weeks of adding flow .

When I first got mine, I only had 2 eflux powerheads (650gph), decently close to the nem >10 inches and not in direct flow. I'd love mine to be more bubbly, but I like it the way it is as well. Here's mine 5 minutes ago with its host maroon

In my 300 l aquarium - I have no BTA - it is some richordea sp that "bubble up". In my old aquarium (down 2016) I got two pink red BTA of a friend of me. In his aquarium - they had bubbles. In my - no.This two - have been over 100 clones since that. I have two in my 90 L aquarium - and they have bubbles - straight flow. We have more than 50 at my job - no bubbles in one place - bubbles in another place - same water.

Sincerely Lasse

Thanks Lasse. I remembered your tank as having that quick slosh flow, so used it as an example for flow. I do appreciate your input on the matter.;) I guess that blows my theory out of the water!;Facepalm

Have any of you never fed your BTA ever?

I have a friend that have all BTA bubbling all the time. I got couple from him, and they turn instant noodle. I had it in my LPs tank, mid light mid flow, and sps tank, high light high flow, all noodling. One thing stand out for me is, I always feed a lot. Even I don feed the anemone directly, they would got some from tank feeding. My friend feed very little (one cube every other day in a fully stocked 90 gallons)

This is interesting. My tank is a 20g Red Sea. I have an mp10 on level 5 speed and the 2nd white light for wave pattern. The anemone mostly just waves back and forth hardly and actually movement as the flow does not hit directly. My buddy had them in a basket. They had little flow and were all touching each other.
Could extreme close proximity to another bta do it?

Personally I believe it’s the flow. Mine tucked into a crevice out of the hardest flow and now sways around with perfect bubble tips. And an obsessed porcelain crab

But, they Are anemones! Who the heck knows why they do what they do. Kind of like cats...whatever they want lol.

I have had RBTA's coming outta my ears since I started with 1 that came out of a used tank I picked up a couple of years ago. So many splits since I would guess i've traded and given away atleast 50 of them over the past 2 years to the LFS and local reefers. I've gotten to personally see a lot of these in local tanks and none of them look alike or act the same and they all have came from the same original. IMO your gonna get what the anemone decides for you lol I've got them in 3 of my tanks... All same parameters, same lighting and they look different in all 3 tanks. I've adjusted Par, flow, etc. etc. in the tank that they don't bubble up in and never have I came close to getting them to bubble up in that tank. 1 thing I do know is this particular anemone splits like wild fire in this tank that it does not bubble up in... So i culture them in that tank then put them in a different tank to get them bright n bubbled up before trading them in cause the LFS moves them like hot cakes when they are bubbled up vs. if they aren't they set in his tank for weeks. You can see in the picture the bottom 2 are the freshest adds to the bubble up tank... It takes them about 2 to 3 weeks to fully convert to bubble... Strange creatures!
