Why I love my Swabbie!

So six months ago I cleaned my protein skimmer pretty much every week to keep the skimming performance up, but then I ran across the Swabbie from AVAST, which I saw as more of a novelty than anything. So I purchased it hoping to give it a try and have been using it for the last 6 months. Basically, they recommend you clean it every month, but I have gotten lazy and haven't cleaned it in like six months. I posted pictures below that show how dirty the swabbie was, yet how clean the neck of the skimmer remained. I'm impressed and now am sold on the concept! Perhaps they could have the dirtiest swabbie competition.....I think I could win :bigsmile:

I should add that the crud that you see on the skimmer neck is actually on the outside of the neck.....

Nice. I have a brand new Reef Octopus neck cleaner that I haven't been able to try out yet, but soon... (have to get my new tank up first)

How often and for how long did you set the swabbie to clean the neck?

I have it on a timer that cleans 3 times a day for 5-10 minutes (it's an analog timer so it is not very precise).
