Making your own fish/coral food at home is one of the easiest ways to feed a healthy and well rounded menu to your tank. I want to find out what users are using for their own tank.

My Fish food recipe:

1) Soakers

Cyclopeeze
Mysis Shrimp
Fish Eggs (sushi type)
Spirulina Algae pellets
Formula 1 frozen type

2) Choppers
Nori sheet
Garlic

3) Vitamins
Selcon

I soak all the Soakers in a non-bleached coffee filter in some tank water until they are soft or unfrozen. I Chop up the nori into small pieces and I slice the garlic cloves.

I then put them all in a zip-lock bag and mix it together with the Vitamins. Once they are evenly mixed I squeeze any of the extra air out of the zip-lock bag and press/roll out the mix so that it lays thin in the bag. I put it in the freezer and let it freeze overnight. BTW, I do not feed the garlic to the tank I just use it as a supplement both before the freeze and in the feeding cup.

So what is you recipe and why do my fish eat better than I do? :hammer:

I made up some frozen food over a year ago, but I don't use it all that often since I didn't like it's consistency. I didn't blend it up enough and it tends to stay clumped in the water. I did a modified (downsized to what I could find) "Borneman" coral recipe: shrimp, scallops, nori, dry food, frozen food, etc . . . basically anything and everything.

Next time I'll blend it into a fine puree. I'm also anxious to try Anthony's suggested method of making your own frozen food ice cubes with the help of some eggcrate.

From day to day I'll feed one of the following:

Dry Foods:
Formula One
Prime Reef
Dried Brine Shrimp
Spirulina
Nori (I'm wanting to expand my seaweed selection)

Frozen Food:
Cyclopeeze
Mysis
Bloodworms
DT's Oyster Eggs
Home-Made Food

The only additive I have is VitaChem and it get used very rarely.

Feed my fish any of the following;

Frozen Blood Worms
Frozen Mysid
Frozen Spriu enriched brine
Omega One Kelp flakes
New Life Spectrum pellets

For the coral, every once in a while i dose some golden pearl size 5-50.

Rod's Foods Ingredient list:

Shrimp, Scallop, Oyster, Clam, Squid, Octopus, Brine, Krill, Mysis, Grouper (or perch), Red Nori, green Nori, Broccoli, carrot, Frozen red plankton, Golden pearl (7 sizes), DTs Oyster eggs, Selcon, Fresh hatched brine, Freshly harvested rotifers.

There is no reason to go through all the hassel of preparing your own food. It feeds your corals, fish, inverts, and anything else that eats in your tank. I sound like I work for them but I don't. I swear by this stuff.

Two packs last me 3 weeks with my 14 fish. So spending $10 a week on food isn't much. And it takes me 2 minutes to pick it up from an LFS that sells it. No blending or packing. By the time you factor in the cost of everything above, pay for ziplock freezor bags, and do the work of blending and packing ... it really isn't worth it.

I'm not questioning your results, but wouldn't the tank water add bacteria to the food? What about using RO/DI water?

I'm not sure if it would add bacteria or not. I figured that if I freeze it there wouldn't be any bacteria colonizing it anyways. I will switch to RO/DI for peace of mind.
