Alk question - some general guidance please….

Hi all, I have a 40 g sumpless system running a canister filter. The canister is mostly filled with Matrix and has some floss for general waste capture. I’ve recently upgraded from FOWLR to starting with some corals, upgraded the lighting to a Kessill A160 blue. Current stocking is 2 clowns...

Is dosing kalk this way safe???

Hi everyone, I've got a kalk question. I want to eventually get a kalk stirer but it's out of my budget at the moment but I want to start dosing kalk because I dose 2 part and it's expensive, also my ph peaks at 8.1 but is not very stable so I want to get my average ph higher. Could I take some...

Issue keeping ph and calcium stable

Hey all I have a 240g 5 months old water parameters are all good. The only issue I am having is keeping my 8.0-8.4 ph, it usually drops daily to 7.89 and hovers there. I dose alk 4 times a day at 200ml total daily. I can’t keep it to stay at above an 8. Calcium I dose 75ml a day and it...

    pH - very high

What would cause my pH to be so high? The only thing I dose are KZ coral booster, Xtra, snow, cyano clean, vitalizer, and flatworm stop. Even the pH in my calcium reactor is high 7.9. my Alk also continually increases. The dips in the graph is when I lower it with muratic acid.

    Help with Dropping Alk

I have a well established 32 gallon tank with another 10 gallons of sump. It has been up and running for 2 years. Recently my alk has started dropping and I can't seem to get it back up. Normally I try to keep it in the 8.0 range but over the last few weeks it has continued to drop and just hit...

Why is my Alk dropping independently of other parameters?

The alkalinity in my tank seems to be dropping steadily (about .1 dKH/day) independent of the other parameters. All parameters are tested daily because my humans are new to reefing and want to understand how everything works together. The other parameters remain relatively steady at: Temp...

EMERGENCY Help! Water parameters are getting me frustrated…

Hello, So I have a 25g JBJ Biocube. It was doing pretty good until recently. Been having issues with Phosphates and Alkalinity. So I’ve been going to the LFS weekly and having them test everything. Asking what I should do or not do. I went in yesterday expecting my Alk to have dropped and it...

    Trident/DOS dosing and Alk swings

Howdy! Hopefully an appropriate place to post. I've noticed over the last week or so my Alk has started to swing a fair bit from low of 8.46 to high of 9.05 with my set point 8.6 I've adjusted the dosing baseline to the average over the last month and just today increased my testing from 4/2...

    Lowering alk

My alk is at 17 dKH and I was told a water change would fix this. However, after changing out about 5gal from my 20gal tank, the alk stayed the same. I’ve read in other threads that some people suggest acid, but others heavily warn against it. Is this a problem I just have to wait out?

    Dosing experts advice needed

Hi everyone, I recently installed an apex system on my tank, I have the dosing pump as well it just hasn't been installed yet. Water testing apprehension

I know I ALWAYS have a little ‘test anxiety’ when performing my water tests every week (alk every other day). I always hope everything turns out well and it usually does. Problem is, when it doesn’t (or I have missed a few weeks of testing), it can sometimes bring on a little panic as the...

pH too high, alk too low...

Background: I have a FOWLR tank that I'm getting ready to convert into a reef tank. It's established (for about 6 years now) and I started buying the extras (lights, pumps, trident for monitoring, DOS pumps for dosing) because I know me, and I know the more automated I can get it, the more...

Alk dropping with DOS, always turned off??

So my I noticed my Alk dropping just before the new year. It's typically steady in the mid 8's but my Trident was showing a pretty consistent drop. You can see in the attached pictures it went from 8.39 to 7.0 in just 3 days or so. Now I have a DOS, with Trident controlled dosing which is...

    All For Reef Maximum Alk?

Hi all, It's my first post on this forum! I couldn't find the answer after looking around the forum for a while. I was looking into starting dosing AFR to maintain my alk and calcium but the instructions say to dose until you achieve 9dkh. I'm using the red sea coral pro salt which gets me...

Finally got some data on my dkh phos and calc

Heyo, ** Questions: - from what I'd read if I were to dose some of the calcium carbonate part of my b ionic solution it - seemed like I could precipitate out some phos into crystals, out of water column, but being that I don't have a skimmer I don't think this would be beneficial to export it...

Reef Crystals and My Struggle with Low Alkalinity

I've been struggling to get a grip on a low alkalinity problem in both my tanks. I've got a 20g reef only tank with a few beginners corals (zoas, acans, etc.) and two SPS corals (purple birdsnest and a green pavona). They all seem fine, the birdsnest is doing well, but my pavona is starting to...

    Nitrates making alk rise

So I was speaking to my LFS earlier and they said that my alk could be rising because I have started using nopox to lower nitrates. This sounded odd but what they said kind of made sense and the time frames coinside. So my nitrates where really high at 40ppm before and my alk was at 9.1. I...

How fast can I drop my alk

So I made a post earlier asking about new salt and I have since bought the tropic Marin salt. So now I have picked my new salt I was...

So I have an issue that i can't seem to find a solution to online anywhere. Over the past few weeks my alk has slowly been rising. Hi, i have been reefing for little over a year, and have had good success with my nano low tech tank. Simple waterchanges have allowed me to grow some birdsnest SPS and montipora.
