What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?

Well I’ve been keeping this on the down low. Just over 3 weeks ago Indeed contacted me and stated a possible employer came across my resume and wanted to speak to me. His office is 28 miles from my house but in Pennsylvania. He made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. I’ve spent the last few weeks trying to get a PA license, school records, self query, national board results, malpractice declaration page, a letter from the Ohio Chiropractic Board stating I was in good standing, took a 3 continuing education course, and had to get fingerprinted, which was kinda a let down because my pasts ones it was followed by a full cavity probe, put against a wall and sprayed down with a high pressure water hose and then given new pair of orange pajamas that I would be proud to wear at the pajama party at my local Walmart. I will have one hour less a commute each day. I start on Monday.

Awesome brother... and that ending... LOL!!!

I've been told it'd be alright by everyone.. people have kept them in 50 gallons before.
Please be careful with what some people tell you. There are a few "well respected" members on this forum that are known while very bad advice.

I've got a Tomini in my 3' 70 gallon tank but I don't recommend that to others. Mine came over from my 65 to my 125 to my 70. It's still a small guy after 5 years. If he starts acting cramped he'll be rehomed.

Yeah, that stinks, but I know how it goes, dude. My all time favorite Tang - my all time favorite fish, really - is the Blonde Naso. I've been keeping Aquariums now for 37 years, and I've still never owned one.

Now my tank, like I said, has a 180 gallon main display, and many people would say, "oh, that's fine"; or, "lots of people keep them in a 180". They'd be wrong, though. Proper mentors in this hobby taught me otherwise. They taught me to truly do my research and reef responsibly. Blonde Nasos are spectacularly beautiful, especially when they reach their adult sizes and have fully developed streamers. I know that they need an eight foot tank to accommodate their size AND behaviors, though.

When dealing with the lives of other living, breathing creatures of the universe, the objective shouldn't just be about surviving. It should be about thriving, because we MUST be good stewards to the charges in our care. It is our responsibility, not only as hobbyists, but as living, breathing children of the universe, ourselves.

I hope I didn't come across as pontificating. I'm just merely sharing my philosophy of reefing that taught me that, when seeking advice on how to handle life itself, we should always choose the most conservative responses.

I wish you the best on your reefing journey, Cam. I'm always here if you ever have questions. Please feel free to message me, or drop in on my thread and hang with out with The #Heathens from time to time.

Namaste
Excellent post sir

That's what I was thinking about doing. If the white tail starts getting stressed over time I'll give it back to my LFS who's got three 180g.

Not sure how a fish would cause a crash. Unless it was in there dead, dying and decaying.
It could have brought Ich / velvet to the party as a +1 😉

I have a second interview for a different municipality on Tuesday...

And I have a possible strained or torn rotator cuff...

What are the dimensions of your 70?

You're still considering getting the tang after what all of us are saying??

True... but when someone says "tank crash" I think EVERYTHING dies... not just fish. I don't consider that a tank crash... call me crazy... 🤨 🤣

If everyone jumped off a cliff and said they were fine, would you do it too? Just because people say something is fine doesn't mean it is always the best option.

That's where my mind goes to everytime, haha.

Good morning, all.

It depends largely on the width of the aquarium. A 4' 90g? No problem. A 4' 55g? Absolutely not. Not all Ctenochaetus sp. are created equal, and despite popular belief / opinion, not all stay small like Ctenochaetus tominiensis. I have both and Orange Striated and White Tail in my system, and neither of them stay small. My white tail (Ctenochaetus flauvicauda) is currently 6.5" and is extremely active.

As for the wrasses, they will be fine together, but I wouldn't bring the specimen home unless you're running a 90 minimum. Remember, it isn't just the length. These fish need room to maneuver in and around the aquascape, and width is important for turning.

Happy reefing
not that I want a tang but what would be your opinion on a 112g 36x36x22? Originally I kept going back and forth with the 36x48 but the 36x36 fit better in my space.
