I had my first Fowlr tank in 1982 and have had tanks off and on since, more off than on. I have recently become retired and needed something to do and thought I'd set up my old 125g and put some damsels in it, boy was I delusional. Two months in I had already decided to swap over to my 225 that had been in my living room laying dormant for 12 yrs and go full reef. I have kept a few Zoas in the past but never really delved into corals till less than two yrs ago. I have learned more in the last two years than I have since I started almost 30 yrs ago. Years in the hobby do not equate to experience years by far. My current tank was set up March of 2014 and totally redone this past December when I pulled my fish and went fallow for 11 weeks due to a crypto outbreak. I have only stocked with small frags and am pleased with the growth I have had. I've kept pics of most corals from beginning so I have a lot of comparison shots.

I prepare my own frozen with fresh seafood, nori, selcon, and whatever else I have at the time as far as food.
New Era Grazers for a treat
Occasional Ocean Nutrition Flakes

Reef Roids, Phyto, Coral Smoothie and Acropower maybe twice a month
I feed my fish very heavy and the corals get food that way and also from their elimination

Currently trying out Reef Bugs twice a week which seems to be doing the job, increased pod production, good coral feeding response.

Ca 150 ml daily
Mg, I run 1400 most the time and have not dosed in 4 months, ESV when I do

upgraded my skimmer a few weeks ago due to the one I had being undersized for my system and starting to have increased nitrate problems. Went with the ASM G-4 and Sicce psk-1000 pump. This thing is a beast, started skimming first day and within a week was on blast. Emptying cup every 3-4 days and nitrates are down from 10 to 2, weaning Nopox. I'm a happy reefer.

Looks like a well planned out system. You're lucky to have the option to put the sump in the garage. Nice looking display tank too.

Just wanted to share my LTA endeavor. Nice sized slightly bleached when I got it, it was a really beautiful lavender, within four months it regained its health and color, grew to over 15" across and was taking up too much real estate for my taste. Here's the 4 month comparison pics.
