So, I’ve decided to use my frag tank that was lying around. I’m doing a shallow Aquaforest tank. I want to keep it all Acro.

Using reefbrite 2x250 hqi with 2 blue xho leds.

I’ve had the Bio Fil running for a few weeks now and should be adding some corals this week.

I think I’ll use MP40s, but they push the sand around too much being it’s so shallow. Any ideas for better shallow reef powerheads?

Looking good! How about a horizontally mounted gyre at one end, or at both opposing ends instead of a powerhead?

EDIT: or two along the back wall?

Not sure if I could fit 2 on the back, I like the idea. Depends on measurements with the overflow box. I worked with a gyre years ago, it was a pain to clean and put together. Might be made better these days.

Been a little while, slow going and not rushing this build. Installed 2 Aquaforest reactors. One for Bio Fil and the other Carbon and Phos -. These are my all time favorite reactors so far.

Also, decided to try the simplicity 120 sc skimmer. So far, I like it. Right now the tank is finishing off the delightful brown algae stage.

I tried the MP40, it was too strong for a 12” high tank. Moved way to much sand. Had to switch to the Maxspect Gyre
