Hey all -

Picked this up from a local reefer a month or so ago. He was loosely calling it some variety of Acan, and I picked it up for $20 or $25.

Seems to be doing well in the tank, as it’s grown to a little over the size of a half dollar now. Definitely “beefier” than I was expecting for an acan.

Ive been waiting on more polyps, but was wondering if it is indeed an Acan, or maybe I grabbed some variety of scoly or something?

As far as behavior, it has a single mouth with tentacles that unfurl during feeding. Seems to open up fully at night.

Pic attached. Any help with a more specific ID are always appreciated!

Thanks for all the responses! Definitely seems like it could be any of these, ha. Only time will tell!

Some more photos with whites + a blue.

Status update: it’s gotten a little brighter orange, almost hot pink in blues at night.

Still hasn’t branched off any new eyes/mouths/heads or anything.

Here’s a couple pics during feeding. Taken with an Orphek lens kit.

Anyone have a further guess?

The oral disc doesn't look big enough to be a scoly. Looks like a bowerbanki to me. I had one that was 2.5" around. I kept a handful of the juvies off it and sold the original polyp. The juvies so far are getting to be about 1.25" and then sprouting babies. Might be the difference between a wild polyp and one that's tank grown. This might be a wild one and that's why you're getting a bigger polyp before seeing juvies.

Interesting! Appreciate the thoughts. Curious to see how this one turns out. Seems to get flat and wide closer to the sand, plumps up in lower flower and higher out of sand. About 1.5” right now, so def seems to be growing.

Here are full polyps extended. Agreed - small mouth. Just kind of caves in and sucks up all food.
