Hello all I have had this achilles for a few months now but he just started showing white spots after doing all the qt and stuff before too. The tank had ich in the past but I left it empty for a month after the outbreak happened. Is there any way to keep an achilles through ich management? I know they’re super weak against it, but all my other fish have no spots and i dont wanna put it through all the stress of trying to capture it.

Ich management is a short cut and rarely works. Please posts pics and even video under bright white lighting, no blues

Ich management includes a properly sized (large) UV System so I would investigate that. Unfortunately, once Ich appears like on your Achilles it's not effective and a medicated QT is the course of action.

Fallow fishless periods for ich need to be 60 days. You can sometimes go as short as 45 days at water temperatures above 81.

IMO - your Achilles has ich too severe to be treated by “ich management”. Your best bet would be to move all fish to a stable hospital tank and treat with Coppersafe for 30 days, then hold them out of your DT for another 30 days. And I fully understand this will be very tough to do….

If you want to try ich management, you’ll have to work hard at it - lots of things you need to actively do:

I was able to get the achilles out but i have too many other fish to treat? How would I go about this?

The trouble is, once exposed to the parasite, other fish may develop active ich. Even so they don’t, you’ll have difficulty in ever getting the Achilles back into that tank without it getting reinfected.

To be honest, as a public aquarium curator, I decided to NOT acquire any “powder” tangs (including Achilles) for about 20 years due to issues with ich. I began getting them again about a decade ago when I began a rigorous 30 to 45 day coppersafe treatment…..

Achilles are expensive fish that are notorious for getting Ich. I have other Tangs but have avoided Powder Tangs because of this and their aggressive nature. I'm running a 80 Watt UV on my 180 Gallon System and would probably go even larger if getting an Achilles. The only thing I would suggest is to treat your Achilles in QT, modify your setup and observe your others while performing QT. Not really a good solution, but the other option is maybe to adjust your Tank to go FOWLR and treat.
