Hello! Currently have a 100 gallon mixed reef tank, that's been up since July. I plan to get more inverts like an urchin, a clam of some sorts, another shrimp or two, and a snail.

Looking for feedback on what I think will go well with this current stock, the number of fish I plan to have, and their compatibility/order to introduce them. Additionally for any suggestions that I may not have considered. I'm in no rush to get anything as I want these last few additions to go smoothly and be what I actually want/can care for. Luckily everything has been smooth up to this point so I want to keep it that way haha.

I have the following fish/inverts in my tank:
  • Snowflake Clownfish x2
  • Yasha Goby & Candy Cane Pistol Shrimp Pair
  • Royal Gramma
  • Yellow Watchman Goby (not paired)
  • Purple Firefish
  • Cleaner Shrimp
  • Assorted Live Rock Hitchhikers (Likely Jujube Snail, Red Mithrax Crab x2, Brittle Sea Stars x?)

I'm not entirely sure how much more I can add in terms of fish, as this is my first saltwater fish tank. My thoughts are that I likely can only make a few more additions before stopping but hopefully someone can verify. With that being said, the following is what I am thinking of placing in the tank:

  • White Tail Bristletooth Tang/ Two Spot Bristletooth Tang (only 1, not both)
  • Wrasse (Fairy maybe? Looking for suggestions)
  • Mandarin Dragonet (will add once I have a stable population of pods)
If I can add more than this, I'm not really sure what I would want to add. I've considered Anthias, or damselfish, maybe even a one spot foxface but not really sure that would work. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated!

stocking a tank really is a individual choice and often becomes a matter of getting your favorite fish and planning around it's personality.
I see in your list a tang and a fairy wrasse. Given the docile and easily offendable personality of fairies they likely will not make a good match in the same tank.

I was intent on getting a Purple Tang when i bought my tank. That decision essentially meant i needed its tankmates to be able to tolerate aggressive feeding habits and its boisterous temperament.
I'm on the edge of a refresh myself and the next tank will be a collection of smaller, communal fish as adding fish is very tough with my current, semi-aggressive roster.

I think the end goal/intent is for the tang. However I decided to get this one last as I read they could be aggressive. Thoughts? I feel like I’m making appropriate choices based on having a tang as the key addition.

I’ve also read conflicting info somewhere about keeping a royal gramma and dottybacks together not working out. Any thoughts? Also, @i cant think what wrasse(s) would you recommend? I’m under the assumption that based on the responses and research I’ve done that the number of fish is fine and I have some wiggle room potentially.

I think you did an admirable job picking one that is typically less aggressive.
The issue i've had with tangs really hasn't been direct physical aggression but more centered around aggressive feeding habits with very skittish fish. Fairy wrasses for example get spooked by the darting movement, seek refuge in the rocks without feeding themselves and repeat that habit until they expire.

I would say a fairy wrasse, flasher wrasse, and yellow coris wrasses. A leopard once the tank can support with pods.

Not sure about the tang if youre worried about aggression. I had a bristletooth that was evil, so mean! Would slash at me when I was working in the tank even. Then I had a blue lip bristletooth that was a sweet little dude and kept to himself.

Not necessarily worried about aggression, but kept it in mind and planned to add it last because of this.

Gotcha! I also think tomini tangs are under rated too, they have pretty colors I think!

I'd suggest another algae eater whether it be a blenny like a starry blenny or lawn mower blenny. Then even another algae eater would be welcomed in the tank. I have a 150 and keep a starry blenny, Foxface, kole tang, scopas tang, yellow tang, sailfin tang, small powder blue, and a blue tang. Everyone gets along perfectly and honestly, I want the fish waste for the corals. Then I of course have a range of probably other fish probably another 10 or so. It really comes down to your aquascape and the areas your fish have to call home in your tank.

Yeah, I was wanting to get a lawnmower blenny but was worried it may not have enough food due to a pincushion urchin I got, and the crabs that scrape the rock, however, there is still a good amount of algae it feels like and the tank is by a window with indirect sunlight. I was thinking of adding a custom dry rock structure for more depth, more coral placement, and more hiding for fish. If you look at my build thread, you should be able to see what I currently have and maybe give your thoughts on this? With the eventual addition of a small tang, I'm also not trying to crowd the tank and leave some room for swim space.

You can definitely keep a lawnmower in there or a starry without any issue. They will also start eating pretty much any food that enters the tank whether it be Nori, flake, pellets, or even meaty foods once they get used to the tank.

I've kept them back when I had a 55 gallon tank and then had a kole tang and a rabbitfish in the tank too. They were always fat and happy. They will also just roll over the glass surface, but honestly, there will be more than enough to eat in the tank.
