I’ve heard on a few occasions it stated that some reefers will add an air stone to the back compartment of their AIO system. Does this practice offer any benefits and if so what can it help with.
Thank you for your input.

it could help oxygenate the water. However, it should not be necessary if you have sufficient surface agitation via your wavemaker(s), and/or a protein skimmer.

Also, in an AIO, if the back compartment is not covered, the airstone will create a mess of salt spray around your tank.

I agree regarding salt creep everywhere. One statement I heard was it can help increase PH. Any opinion on whether that is possible.

It can increase ph if air is drawn from outside. Air from the room just puts more co2 into your system.

Just like fresh air to a protein skimmer. Makes good sense
