Tried feeding some fresh king salmon and salmon roe today….

the babies are still a tad too small and timid to go after these yummy treats.
it was the pressure of having to perform.

Two of these bad boys to replace my three Current USAs?

Ive notice the flow from the Current USAs doesnt exactly make it all the way from the front of the tank to the back, even at 100%. I am hoping with two of these I could scale back the pump to about 50% each and still have enough flow for the whole tank. Maybe the christmas tree worms would come out and say hello more.

I run one on my 40b, with two more planned for my 36" tank. They definitely move massive amounts of water.

Hey all--

ive been back from vacation for a week now, but i hit the ground running as soon as i got back. Research 10-2, gym 2-330, quick shower and lunch before I leave at 415 for the restaurant.

So i recruited one of the managers at my LFS to watch the tank for me. A bag full of gummies an $50 cash. Thinking he was the manager of a fish store he would be a little more attentive. When I came back, things had bleached further (still having high alk issues), he never once turned on the fuge lights, and some of the corals had fallen off the rock and he just left them upside down on the sand.

Nothings dead dead, but nothings doing too hot either.

On a positive note I may be moving to VA in december for a potential job. Still waiting on the actual written offer but in the video interview they said they wanted to hire me. So with that, I now have to navigate this tank for the next 5 months. I wanted to but the gyros but I also may hold off until/ IF i hear back on the job. If I get the job I'm gonna have to figure out how to transport a 90g system halfway across the US. Not to mention find a home that will allow a 90g system. A lot going on here, too much on the day to day for me to stop in and chit chat as much as I want to.
Hoping that once school starts back up in the next couple weeks I will have a little more time to hang out with all of you. Just one class and my thesis and then your girl has her masters in Environmental Engineering!!!

Sunday funday included getting my dosing pump up and running!
First is vodka (20% ethanol) and it is set at 5mL/day
Just tested nitrate and phosphate after a large water change and we are at 50ppm NO3 and 5ppm PO4
I have some algal growth but not much. And my refugium is barren

All for reef is set at 5mL 3x/daily but I am not sure that I even need that much. Going to be testing frequently Mg and Ca this week to see how things are.

I did a large water change today (30%) because I was trying to let my alk naturally fall… but that didn’t work. It was staying at 13.7dkh for over a week and everything was looking insanely stressed, and more corals bleaching. Alk is now at 10.9 and I am going to do another 30% next Sunday to hopefully bring it in the 8 range and stay around there. Hoping if the corals are less stressed they will actually consume alk!

on a final note I just got paid today, so of course I made some purchases. I purchased the gyre pumps and the tropic Marin/ BRS hybrid method and will be installing that next Sunday as well.
Gonna try to make my corals and fish as happy as possible for the next few months until I figure out my future!

PS- of anyone has suggestions on stands for the dosing pump it would be much appreciated. Don’t really wanna use my patio end table forever lol

SPLAM!!!

after having a 50% wipeout on all my larger corals and 100% wipeout on all my tiny frags….

I have finally found what works for my tank.

for SOME reason unbeknownst to me, my alk constantly rises. No matter how many water changes, no matter how many times I “just let it ride”

soooooo, the last two weeks I’ve been dosing 20mL of vinegar a day. And somehow, someway, it’s keeping my dKh around 11.8 ((which is still scary high, I would like to be around 10 but MUCH better than the quick creep to 14dKh that I have been experiencing)). But the corals are all doing better and I’ve even added a few more members to the crew!

Extremely frustrated.

I had a good run with my system, the tank seemed to finally be getting back on track and ive been vinegar dosing and the alk is now at a nice 11.2 (still high but BABY STEPS).

So to reward myself on good husbandry.... I spent $200 on new corals. Two of which being a nice sized birdsnest and a 5" fluffy, gorgeous purple stylo.

Well.... Everything was good for a week. Then all of a sudden the stylo started to bleach from the bottom to the top. Theres only about 1/2" of polyps left on the tip of the frag. This all happened in a span of 4 days. As of yesterday the birdsnest also has begun to show signs of bleaching as well.
All LPS and softies are just fine. So my fear is an outbreak of RTN. Some of my hartier LPS are also showing signs of STN.

Anyone know of where I can purchase "Prime Coral Prevent RTN" ? I've been looking online and it appears that this product isnt available through the manufacturer or on amazon.
