Curious if anyone has done this, but I’m dosing All For Reef AND their trace element supplements A and K. Any downsides to doing this? I’m manually dosing so not daily but about every two days. Is the only way to test for trace elements an ICP test?

Only downside would possibly be adding more trace elements than you need. If you are adding a relatively small amount of alk by the AFR, this will be fine. I plan to do something like it.

Do you know your daily alk demand in dKH per day?

Any reason you decided to do both? AFR contains all of the trace elements in A and K, at least that is my understanding.

I don’t know his/her reason, but my reason is that the AFR dose is alk demand limited, while the TM A and K is not, and in a low alk demand system, most of the trace element demand may come from noncalcifying organisms such as macroalgae, ats, soft corals, anemones, etc

I do not. I’ve yet to do the test, wait four days, then test again method I see on many instruction bottles for dosing. I’ve tested it about once a week so roughly using about 1dKH per week.

I did both since I’ve only done a water change twice in almost the year I’ve owned the tank. The most recent being about one to two weeks ago.

This was mainly due to my lack of knowledge concerning the elements in saltwater and how they affect coral in different ways. Everything was fine until January when a few coral started to decline in health. Without knowing how much of the trace minerals I replaced with my last ~10g water change in my ~125g (sump included). I opted to dose some trace elements. Then recalled all for reef also does this as well. So only for a few days about a couple days apart this week I’ve dosed 20ml AFR, and 5ml each of A and K.

Thanks for the insight! I’m a guy, btw but you can call me whatever, I don’t get offended easily like most people online (surprisingly not as much on R2R thankfully).

I’d say I have a mix of softies and LPS.

Devils hand
Cabbage leather
About 8-10 zoas
Candy corn chalice
Miami Dolphins Micromussa
Rainbow BTA
Goni (2x small frags)
Kenya Tree
Cool Runnings Favia
Jawbreaker mushroom
Green/Teal Duncan
Dragon Soul Torch
Frogspawn
Tye Dye Acan Echinata (my favorite, and worse off coral of the bunch)

Oh and GSP attempting to cover the back wall of my tank.

Thst is a very low dose and more TM A and K is fine.

Okay. I just started dosing it this week and didn’t want to over do it. You can always add easily but taking it away would require water changes if it can even come out that way. That was my thought process. And following the instructions on the bottle which was 5ml per 26g for AFR, and 1ml per 26g for A and K.

It’s been a couple days since I dosed. So I’ll check my Calcium, Alkalinity, and Magnesium and see what I’m at compared to before I dosed the couple times this week.
