Thank you, but I´m controversial even in Sweden.Well, I am rather new to hobby so can’t really opine, but I’ll say these. Americans you have Paul B and Europeans you have Lasse. That covers two of my biggest idols here on both sides. hope to learn as much as I can from their experience.
Your right and we maybe can´t talk about European vs US point of view any longer. It is more like the collector´s, the businessman´s, the scientist´s, technician´s and the environmentalist´s point of viewI see the gap narrowing between us. There's a definite shift towards tanks jammed full of little glowing frags and blue sand over here now. Fragged themselves if they so much as dare to send a shoot out. Partly to keep them from growing where they aren't wanted, and partly so the owner can recoup some of the money they have "invested" in the original frag.
The American influence is spreading insidiously in Europe.
I work at a small public aquarium in Sweden and we can buy directly from wholesale. The large wholesales in Europe are pretty good IMO. And if you want something not in stock, they can often get it for you. So for a hobbyist, if your LFS is willing to contact and buy from those wholesales, you can get what you like. That goes for equipment too.Rather than making a battle on who has it b..etter, I am more interested to the point of not having a decent selection of livestock in the EU.. why is that? How is it possible that no shop ships corals as someone mentioned earlier? Is it a matter of regulation?
Also on another point I was surprised that the EU market doesn’t have anything like Algaebarn/ReefNutrition/Hikari frozen/LRS foods.. what the heck do you feed finicky fishes/filter feeders over there?
This is the biggest difference and in my opinion the reason why we will not have soon a United States of Europe. Because of the language Europe is a patchwork. And although it is getting better a lot of people in europe do not speak a second language fluently.Europe is not as homogeneous as the US. Everybody doesn’t speak English. Germany is a large country and market for aquariums. So is France. And Italy and Spain. There are no great European forum, but forums in German, Swedish, French, Spanish etc. There are no MACNA yet in Europe(but we’re trying).
As Sallstrom said you can check whitecorals, and also Fauna Marin. Have bought from both and have not been disappointed. Super good service and they ship across Europe (I'm in Denmark).Rather than making a battle on who has it b..etter, I am more interested to the point of not having a decent selection of livestock in the EU.. why is that? For canister filters and what not Europe has way more. The American market is not easy to break into. They have the same stuff we have, if not more. A lot of Europe’s stuff is made in Europe too. A lot of out stuff is made in China.
So true And the variety of fish is much better in USA eg you can get fish from liveaqueria, marine collectors I think is the quarentened one and saltwater fish.com we have LFS websites and livefish.com which is decent but not great for rarer stuffYou can import whatever you like from wherever ... down here in Australia we have a very narrow choice of equipment, so we import the precise equipment privately.
Dont get me wrong i love my country but is it just me or do we suck at reefing compared to Europeans when i look at our tanks (not mine) i see frag tanks on liverock ...10000 frag plugs of rare highlighter looking coral (scolly garden?) when european tanks seem like they actually try to capture the beauty of the reef over the harboring of rare coral ...just a thought wish i saw more coral in tanks than i did wooden plugs they treat it more like an art than a collection
