So I bought a rainbow bubble tip anemone yesterday. He's no bigger than a quarter fully opened so he's a small one. But when I got him yesterday he was in a frag tank in a corner in a shaded part kinda. I couldn't tell if the light intensity was a lot when it was on white because they keep the blues on, on the frag tank when I bought him. At my LFS they have a kessil light for their frag tank, on my tank I have a
VIPARSPECTRA
Timer Control 165W LED Aquarium Light Dimmable Full Spectrum from Amazon, currently the intensity of the whites is at 1. The light ranges from 1-100 on whites and blues. So I'm not too sure what 1 is, I wanna say an intensity of about 12. I'll have to wait till tomorrow to read it with a light meter. The reason I have it on one is I'm trying to get the other corals acclimated to the light since it's very bright and gives off a lot of light and I just don't want them to bleach but maybe it's not enough light for the anemone?.. I'm saying that because after it being open and happy looking all day, I came to look at it maybe an hour ago and its mouth was completely out and still is. It keeps opening and closing up every few mins and thats about it. Also maybe he has too much flow or too little? In the frag tank it was in it had very little flow so I'm not too sure.. I've moved the power head some to see if it helped but he's still unhappy.. Also I driped and float acclimated him for about almost an hour it wasn't a full hour though.

This is my first anemone and the tank is 6months old, water parameters are great I tested them this morning and there's no problem with that. Expect my salinity was high this morning like around 1.29-1.30 so I did a small water change and slowly added new water back just so I didn't shock anything. But it's back to normal, it's at about 1.25-1.26. And temp. is at about 78 it varies sometimes from 77-79. Also maybe I should try feeding it? I've read a lot on them and many say to just let them be and get used to the tank? But I'm just concerned about its mouth pushed out.. I tried getting the best pic I could, since blues are on right now and he's so small it's a little difficult but you can still kinda see it. Also it's not excreting anything, it's just his mouth is pushed out.

Thanks for any help and advice! Hope the little guy turns out to be ok..

Personally I would let him be for a day or two. He is going to be stressed and will wander to find a spot he thinks is perfect...whether you think it is or not lol ;)
Yeah I haven't touched him or anything, have just been observing him just to make sure he's ok. But I totally understand that, the reason I got him is because I barely have any corals so I thought it would be the perfect time to try one out but luckily yesterday when I put him in he moved maybe an inch down and found a spot and has stayed there all day so hopefully he doesn't go wandering tonight but I'll just have to keep watching him. Thanks for the advice!

Sounds like he is doing ok, I will say from my experience, don't plan on putting corals anywhere in his vacinity! Lol I think the know! I have tried and everytime they stretch out just a little more or they move just a hair...or split! They are beautiful but ridiculous! VZM.IMG_20161231_183111.jpg
Sorry about the crappy pic, just took one quick!

Ok so the mouth being out is kinda normal for new added anemones? He seems ok other than just closing up some but his tentacles are full and not like stringy. And yeah I totally have it planed out for the future once he gets bigger. The good thing is right now he's so small and he's on a big rock by himself so he has a ton of room to grow and not touch other corals. But you have some beautiful anemones! Hope mine turns out like one of those!

Alright well I guess I better plan on him moving probably, he did move some like I said in one of the messages but once he found this hangover spot with a cave he has stayed there all day. I'm just hoping he doesn't move during the night if he even does move.

They will poof their mouths out if they are hungry from what I have read but they are just fine as long as they have enough light for a few days while settling in. They will definitely move if they are not pleased with their situation. I don't know about your light, I have Radion LED's and they seem ok, but LED's are all very different. I would watch him, if he is not getting enough light he will be trying to get as close to it as possible. You want to be really careful with you water parameters...stability is very important! How old is your tank?

Ohh alright well maybe I'll try feeding him some small pieces of mysis shrimp tomorrow, and see if he takes any. Well the ones I have are a Chinese brand, I did as much research on them as I possibly could but they're pretty good I just don't know what intensity to put them at since the light is about 12 inchs above my tank and it's super bright on level one on whites.. Well if he moves then I know somethings up, either with flow or light. And yes I try to check everything once or twice a week. And like I said I checked them this morning and the only thing wrong was salinity. But I try to stay on top of my parameters so that shouldn't be a problem. And the tank is right at 6 months old.

Ok well you should be off to a good start. The light setting, I know nothing, hopefully someone else can help with that part! I know mine will just drop the food if they don't want it so trying something small might be ok. Hope he does well for you! I was so excited when my clowns started hosting, it is totally worth all the hassle.

Great! Yeah I'll just read up on the lights some more and see what might be good for him. And ok I'll probably just do one small piece and see if he takes it and if not then I'll just let him be. But thanks! I was just a little worried about the mouth being out like it was.. it's actually closed up now from what I can see but it's hard to tell since he's hanging upside down lol. And yeah I can't wait to put my clownfish back in my tank! He's in QT right now because he had ich and unfortunately my female died two days ago.. I'm guessing it was brook, it's upsetting but now the male has something to look forward to I hope! They hosted a scoly before so I hope he hosts the anemone!:D

Well I feed the anemone this morning and he ate! When he started bringing the food to his mouth it looked exactly like it did last night, so now I know if he does that he wants some food lol. But I'm happy that's all it was, and I hope he's happier now!

Well now he's a little closed up.. I did increase the light by one level but he closed up some so I moved it back down. I thought it would be best to let him get acclimated more to the light and slowly increase the light over a few weeks. His mouth is a little bit open but not as much as yesterday. I'll add a pic to show what he looks like now.
