Hello all, been reading through your forum for a few weeks now and finally decided to join. Our kind of long and pathetic story on how we got to where we are now is below in case anyone is bored enough to read on. lol
My hubby and I have been freshwater folk for years, always wanted a saltwater but just never had the time we felt to care for it properly, you know...work, college and so on. Then the babies arrived, time to be mom & dad, raise the kids and all that good stuff.
Fast forward to now - Babes are now grown and on their own and here this grandma and grandpa sit, wondering still about that saltwater tank, still totally amazed by them and finally deciding that yes, it's time to make it happen! Time for that little dab o' salt :wink:
Been reading everything we can get our hands on for the past 6 months, started two 20g & two 10g quarantine tanks, live rock and a few frags. Have had those going for about a month or so, all cycled etc.... Next we tried to decide on a larger tank for fish and live rock and the hubby built an awesome oak stand for a 75g complete with a shadowbox. We got that going and felt pretty proud of ourselves for our first efforts, the 75g was cycling right on track and we started to get excited. Checking out all the fish compatibility lists, reading up on the different individuals we liked the looks of and what happens.....the tank busts a seam! Almost the complete 75 gallons of saltwater all on, or should I say soaked up like a sponge by my new carpet. :too_sad:
Well, we thought about going smaller, something like a 40g to start us off but as is par for the course for us we decided that wasn't going to last us long enough so we needed to go bigger and bigger we did. We're now the proud yet still mostly clueless owners of a 125g reef ready due to be picked up tomorrow morning. We got it at what we thought to be a fair deal and it comes complete with some live rock, a hippo tang and a desjardini sailfin tang. Yep, we have all the hardware, lighting, skimmer and that kind of thing along with it. Now we're really excited and also freeeaking out! Ohhhh my gosh, are we ready for this? Thats whats going through our heads now. Wish us luck as we start our journey! I'll post pics as we set up in case anyone is interested. Here weeeee gooooo!
