Anyone dip with Bayer???

Hello,
Seen a post on another forum that someone is using garden grade bug killer to dip corals..
Says it kills all pest...
Does anyone actually use this method? Seems kinda harsh to coral...like swallowing gasoline...

Much easier on corals than some commercial coral dips. I never lost a coral due to a Bayer dip. You just need to make sure it's rinsed very well so you don't get any residue in your tank.

I use it. Most corals have PE while in the dip. I believe the dip attacks the central nervous system to kill and corals are not effected. Agree with above to rinse well. I use 3 tubs when I do it. Dip tub > clean salt water tub 1 > Clean Salt water tub 2 > tank

I've been using Bayer for more than 18 years now...................... from what 4 years in this hobby.
Every time when I hang out by one of our sponsors I can't believe when ppl telling me they have never heard of R2R

well that's sad.
The worst part is they load up some corals with their hard earned money and never even heard about dipping corals, no not in Salsa

But I'm not surprised............ Dipping in a coral dip of any kind.
When I tell them about Bayer they like...... your kidding right? No I'm not......... Diesel never fools around under any condition, this hobby is serious business,

Bayer is one of the best coral dips in my opinion, it's actually a lawn and garden insecticide.
Bayer Complete Insect Killer can be found at Home Depot, Lowes, and other home and garden stores.
I've found it to be far milder than other dips that utilize various plant oils to irritate coral pathogens such as Revive and Coral Rx.
I've even accidentally left corals in a bayer dip for up to 2 hours with no ill effects

Due to the nature of this product, some caveats come with its use:
(Always wise to read the instructions but I couldn't find any on the bottle to use on corals

)

Always wear gloves and eye protection. If any Bayer comes in contact with your skin, rinse immediately.
Use 1-2 rinse buckets with water from your aquarium. Very small quantities of Bayer can be enough to kill ornamental shrimp and crustaceans in your aquarium. After dipping in Bayer, use the rinse buckets to rinse off any residual dips.
Be sure to remove any acropora crabs before dipping.

Ok, how do I dip, and how much??

Good question

The effective concentration can vary quite a bit. We often use the same dipping container and add enough of the product to make it look like skim milk.
If you are dipping a small batch of corals you can mix up anywhere from 2ml-10ml per 4 ounces of tank water.
A dip duration of 5-15 minutes is recommended.

or longer, you also can double dip

Use a turkey baster to blast the coral and with flow to knock off any pests that will be stunned by the dip.
Rinse in clean tank water and inspect for any pest algae, or eggs of pests.
Do not combine Bayer with any other coral dip product

Use of a quarantine system is still recommended after dipping

as the dip is not toxic to the eggs of many pests.
They can be easily overlooked and you will

A quarantine period of 4-6 weeks or longer when AEFW are detected and repeated dips are the best way to ensure pests do not enter your aquarium.
We recommend you dip all corals, no matter where they come from, its a good habit to get into!

Hope this shine some light on a dipping method of course there different dipping solutions you can buy at the LFS but again Bayer can't be beat.

Well, I don't have the experience with Bayer, but have read up a bit. One great plus is that Bayer isn't a "reef" product and is actually priced reasonably, unlike many "reef" products.

I noticed some corals had a half-week issue, then I had some that just ended up rtn'ing within a day or two. Switched to RX and haven't had the issue.

Best to use things intended for our sensitive creatures imo, after all it's a mixture intended to indiscriminately kill and sicken for the most part. (vs essential oils etc)
Definitely qualifies as stress...
