Anyone watch TV via the net?

I heard on the radio this morning that the new thing is to drop your cable / dish and watch TV for free over the net, makes me wonder if it is the same experience as actual TV? If so do you recommend it yet or is this something that needs to be worked out and will be better in time?

How do you do it? Do you have to buy anything to link up your computer to your TV set?

i dropped my cable about a month ago. I bought a HD antenna for local channels, and a Blu-ray player that does Netflix and Hulu through the internet. Went from $100 for TV to $15, so glad I made the change.

I have been thinking of upgrading my net, I called the local cable provider today and told the lady that I have been using DSL and it always stalls out on me. I have Vonage too and at times there is a 3 to 5 second delay on the phone. She told me that in my area the DSL is only rated at 1.5 Meg max and this is why I have been having troubles. She was trying to sell me a 10 Meg cable net service for an intro price of like $40 "which is what I am currently paying for DSL" and then in a year it go's to like $60. So the rate hike is got me thinking I could cut the dish service that I currently have and justify the cable net. I have used Netflix before but in the summer months it is hard to sit and watch a movie so we cancelled it.

Demonic, is the $15 you spend on your Netflix only?

No I spend that on the Netlfix and Hulu. Somewhere between 7 and 8 bucks each. I just changed from DSL to cable because I experienced the same issues. Something you can not have with internet TV. I get 20 Megs for about $40, introductory of course for one year, then it goes to $60.

Great info! I was thinking of doing the same.

I don't know if you guys get astound in your area but I just switched over from comcast and it's much better. Less people on their network. There is a promotion going on for $39 for 50 meg (2 year contract)

I'll have to look into the astound, I live in the sticks though so I doubt it.

i am a huge hockey fan and cant justify paying all the extra for the center ice package so i use this site to watch online streams. they have every sport listed just click any of the sports in the forum and check out the sticky for that day, had a bunch of streams listed
