ATI Straton LED Light - Comments, Review, PAR, Coverage, Discuss...

Got my three 153 g2 in on Friday. Have family in for the week. So just took them out of the box and set up one over the empty tank. Wow these things are nice! Looks to be a really good spread and they give off so little heat compared to my metal halide. Can’t wait to get them set up.

They're probably the chinese knockoff version. That being the case, I've heard they're the same thing, but I could be wrong.

yeah I know there is a chinese knockoff now. I'd steer clear unless your want dodgy LEDs, a questionable driver, and zero customer service.

Remember the reason these can be passively cooled is operating high quality LEDs at a fraction of their maximum power increasing longevity. Also, I doubt you could do all the necessary machining to replicate a straton for a couple of hundred bucks (plus electronics, and a big ol meanwell driver)

It looks like they came out with a slim version of these.

I saw that, a long slim version! Makes sense since most of us have long thin tanks. Luckily my system was big enough that two 204s sideways fit well, but a long-slim version would work better for most people. I wonder if they still split it into separate segments that can be individually controlled. That was a cool feature.

These lights are a top contender for me new build, 60x28x25 sps dominate. I’m thinking 2x pro 153 or 2x flex 153. Even 2x 204, but after reading through this thread that may be not necessary. I will have a glass 5” wide cross brace in the center of the tank.

I’d assume the flex is the same light but the panels are just expanded to give length?

That being said are folks happy with the lights overall still?

I have 2x204 plus 1x153 over my Red Sea Reefer 1000.
I'd give the lamps 5 starts (out of 5) only if I didnt have the issues Im having to connect them to my wifi network.

Lamps are probably the best looking out there.
Color is way better than the lamps I had in the past.
Coverage is incredible.
The app is ok but does the job.

The only issue is that i changed my wifi network at home. I moved from an old ish Linksys to a TP-Link Deco wifi 7 and everything in my house connected right away except for the Stratons.
After a couple weeks of emails and phone calls I realized the lamps can not connect to TPLink Deco.
So here I am waiting for their firmware update to be able to connect them.

In the meantime I tried to reset and to connect direct but so far that hasn't worked for me. I also tried to connect directly to the xfinity router with no luck.

Straton pro 102 over 3 foot x 2 foot x 12" tall tank.

I have had no connectivity issues with mine. I set it up over a year ago and let it eat. I can connect to it reliably every time.

One word of caution - Don't think you just jump into one of these, crank it up and go.
You need a PAR meter because these are some powerful lights. The wattage rating and sometimes the color temps belie their strength. I killed some stuff last year like a dummy. 600-700 PAR lol
And getting the right spectrum that pleases you and the inhabitants can take a little fiddling.
Sometimes it's not so intuitive, but you'll figure it out.

I sit here and tweak it from my desk until it's visually pleasing. I have a little tweaking to do, but it's working out great.

The color blending is very good. None of the rainbow sand crap.

I think it's one of the best lights out there and if you can afford them, you should.

ATI said there hanging kit was delayed for another few weeks, when I called them, so I put my own together. Unpacked the lights to set up, one doesn't turn on, can't connect to it at all. Pretty bummed. I'll give ATI a call on Monday. Initially the light turned on, but while I was configuring one of the other lights, it shut off, now I can't get it to do anything.

Part of the app tells you what PAR is at different depths. Hard to know how accurate it is but it is there.

Agreed. I’ve had no connection issue either
