The tank will be 70” x 24” x 18”. I would prefer fish that can be kept in it for life, as an upgrade will have to be in the indefinite future. Would love different opinions on what the best centerpiece (or maybe even two) fish would be?

I’m a total beginner.

Some on your list are pretty common fish or easy to keep ones. None scream centerpiece if centerpiece means a rare/unusual decent sized fish.

If it means a pretty and active fish, well, most fit that bill.

I voted bellus and butterflies since those seem less common. Yellow and purple tangs are everywhere.... even the ocean has tons of them. I don't really notice them when looking at others tanks. A gem tang or something might fit that bill better.

I agree that Regal Angel would be outstanding. I have had good luck with my Regal angels. I had 6 over the years and none have bother my coral or clam except rare peck here and there that so far never cause enough problem. Certainly does not cause regression or kill any coral or clam

I thought I’d really try to squeeze in that larger tank. Basically no one living beneath me, and below me is empty (no management / reception). Wooden floors but was able to confirm concrete underneath, and a load bearing wall.

The 90 was more of a self-imposed limit really, from not knowing more construction details and what was below me.
