I got this tank on a spur of the moment decision after weeks of scouring Facebook marketplace during my lunch break at work. As with buying anything used second hand from Facebook marketplace, it was exactly perfect but I am perfectly content with it (for now lol)
The first couple days waiting for the water to clear was rough. I choose fine grain caribsea sand which I now realize was the reason I was waiting so long. I am still happy with my choice for finer sand although I would've rather had a deeper bed now.
Starting to clear and go through the ammonia cycle. Since the sand I purchased was live, I added a minimal amount of nitrifying bacteria to the tank
Once the tank was cycled and stable, I was only *planning* on looking at my LFS but fell in love with these little guys and couldn't leave them behind. With my freshwater tanks I had never drip acclimated before, only floated. I was working very hard on not being impatient
This was their first day (24 hrs) in the tank. I kept the lights off. I couldn't sleep most of the night worrying about them!
At first they were complete hams getting used to the current in the tank and would make laps around the tank. The LFS has them in small display tanks with a limited currant.
It's been about a week and they are settling in nicely. They have picked their nighttime spot under the arch and behind the rock on the lefthand side. Scared me the first night, I thought I had lost them when I could no longer see them from my bed. I work a lot and haven't really had a chance to see them during the day this week to see where they like to hangout during the dat. They are feeding well, even with the wave maker on. The smaller one is the bravest and has been starting to try to eat from my hand as I'm feeding.
Yesterday night, I noticed a small diatom problem but nothing I'm too concerned about now since it's a new tank
Tonight I notice that it's a little more but I have limited the amount of "daylight" the tank sees and am expected it to run it's course
