Hello,

Does it require keeping this fish a 2-3" deep sandbed?
Is it aggresive? I have 6line, Blue sapphire damsel, Lightning maroon, Yellow assesor and a Tailspot blenny and all getting along on IM40 tank.

Thanks!

Too shallow. Need at least 4-5”. It’s very mellow despite its awesome display of a gapping mouth. All those fish you mentioned are too aggressive for a BSJ.

Thank you for the info everyone ^^
Also, does it burrow or put sand in the corals like some Gobies?

Most certainly do. Keep a healthy distance between it and Coral that sits on the Sand

Good point! Much cooler temps! Low 70s to upper 60s being ideal
Does it matter whether they are caught from the Sea of Cortez or not? A local expert insists you can keep thise caughtt outside Cortez in a normal reef long term

The temps are consistent throughout their range.

I don’t know what region mine came from but my tank temp is an average of 80° and I’ve had him almost 2 years.

Is that so? 2 yrs is pretty good. Care to elaborate on anything special you do for it?

No one has any stock right now online or locally, so not gonna decide yet. But love to hear others anecdotal info.

I don’t really do anything special. I don’t even have a deep sand bed, it’s maybe 1” but he has gathered up sand himself and piled it up to form his burrow. I do feed a ton of food to try and keep him healthy.

Ahh got it. So keeping it in a reef tank at 78 will probably shorten its lifespan tremendously huh
I believe it all has to do with stressors as they stress far easier than most fish. I feed a ton which I know its key. But, like I said before though, when temps get to 79-80 he visually is very uneasy and I know hes going to change locations in the tank and likely to end up in the overflow until temps go back down. Nonaggression within the tank helps too.. my other fish are getting a bit more aggressive as they get bigger but he has enough room to stick to himself. Lucky hes almost always front and center.
