Where did u go Bubba?
Trying to recover from my tank crashing. About a week after I installed the sulfur denitrator a couple corals started to get pale. Following that I started to get stn and burnt tips. My nutrients never bottomed and the lowest I got with no3 was roughly 2.5 - 5ppm nitrate. I let this go on for the month of January and the first week of February until last week when I decided to remove the denitrator. The tank has stabilized now but I have a long road to recovery.

I am not sure what about the denitrator could of caused it and really maybe what caused it was just a change in the system by installing it. Possibly if I let it go on for long enough the system would of adjusted and all would of been well again but I couldn't just sit back and watch corals down hill for any longer. Now is my up hill battle with trying to get corals to color up again.

Hey buddy,
I am truly sorry to hear of these issues, I am sure you will be on track in short order. I used to consider myself a specialist at sps, I now have zero confidence, and am trying to get that umph needed to push through. You my friend are a specialist, and have a great track record, and all, I mean all folks who endeavor this side of the hobby have setbacks, losses, and in some cases, crashes. I wish you all the best on your recovery my friend!
Cheers

Alk stays around 9. This definitely didn’t have anything to do with live rock. Tank looked great before I installed the denitrater and has stabilized since removing It. Plus I removed the sand at the same time which probably didn’t help. I think it just changed the biology of the tank that the sps were use to.

No I’m not getting the new gen 5’s. I have enough fixtures now that spread is good and I don’t have hot spots so the new led layout won’t help me much. I have seen how well the gen 4’s work and have no complaints.

Sucks to see/hear about the setback Bubba. I’m sure I missed it but why you think your nutrient levels were a little higher to start with? Seems like a lot of new tanks have higher measurable nutrients for the first year or so. You’re not running gfo or refugium are you?

You had this thing rockin and rolling! With the growth rate you get you’ll have it shaped back up in no time! Glad it’s on the rebound. Still looks incredible as a whole!

Wow. Crazy. Sorry to hear. Did you loose any completely?
I went though the same thong when I added a bigger sump to my system. But I lost about 12-13 small colonies. Everything else was fine and didnt even flinch. But the acros wanted no part of it.

Glad you got it balanced out and I'm sure itll bounce back pretty quickly.

When I over dossed vibrant because I can’t read and bottomed out my N and P I had burnt tips with 7.5 alk
You running at nine and everything used to higher levels could have caused it in my opinion
But u move on and learn I’m sure in a month or two ur tank will be 20x better then mine
I was kidding about the live rock but it seems to be the answer to every question now on R2R that or u need to dose zeovit to get bacteria up the answer is never the hobbyist can’t read a test kit and only looks at the tank once a month it’s live rock and zeovit.
Any who ur fts looks great I’m picking up a reef savvy tank in a week sps pirates old 3x4 foot one can’t wait to mess up the eco system I have again

I had high nutrients for about the first 4 months with nitrate up to 50 ppm. I added a refugium and they were around 10 ppm for the month prior to adding the denitrator but I was feeding less and my chaeto started to grow weird stuff. I didn't like my chaeto looking disgusting so I figured without it my nitrates would be high again so I installed the denitrator to handle it.

Yes I lost about 6 corals completely. Unfortunately it was ones I really like also, like my Homewrecker, lro heartthrob, TSA circus freak, and my new CC pink highlighter and TSA Rainbow fusion is about half gone but now has stabilized.

I did pick up a couple new frags a couple days after I took the denitrator off and they are doing well with good color and great pe.

I seen that thread about dosing all the zeovit bacteria stuff. That stuff is absolutely not needed and will probably do more harm than good. I had to stop looking at that thread as I was seeing too many people jumping into dosing that stuff and wasting their money.
