So im going to be building a sump out of a 30 gallon tank for my 75 RR tank. I was looking at this design from Melevsreef.com: Melevsreef.com | Acrylic Sumps & Refugiums. I am currently using a Rio 2100 for my return pump and will be buying a used ASM G3 skimmer. Its going to be a big project getting the 30 gallon inside the stand of my 75 so im planning on doing some good plumbing while im at it. I like the plumbing setup they used for that sump on his site, i want to modify it so that it would work with one overflow. I was looking at how they did it but couldn't figure out what those 2 outlet pipes draining into the return section that are attached to the wooden support are used for and also what the hose that goes to the back of the tank near the refugium is used for. I was thinking the drain line from the tank drains into the skimmer compartment, so wouldn't i need a filter sock or something so as to prevent large particles from clogging the skimmer? I know he made some sort of compartment that holds LR with acrylic but i think reconstructing that out of glass would be much for difficult. Im not sure how i can get all this stuff to fit if the skimmer and filter sock are in the same compartment (The ASM G3 is HUGE). So from a 30 gallon tank i was thinking 14 inches for the skimmer compartment at 8 inches deep + 2inches for the baffles, then 10 inches for the return and refugium. The way my sump is setup now is drain from tank with 1 hose then return to tank with another hose. I want to optimize everything so i wont have to turn the return off. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Pictures of your plumbing would be even more helpful. Thanks
