so last night was the big night!
My Red Sea reefer got wet for the first time and it’s my first tank

I am having trouble figuring out how much water and how to tune the overflow

I have a vectra M1 pump and I did the Spears gate valve mod already 1inch

In order to get the over flow silent I have to close down my drain valve a bit and then my pump starts to suck water.

I also noticed my pump compartment is pretty low on water. I can open the return valve and raise the pump compartment level but then the overflow gets loud

Also my pump is on level 1??

I had the same issue when I got my tank and pump just last month.

Did you calibrate your pump? 1 seems so low. I have a Vectra M2 and I calibrate it and then what I did was close the drain valve all the way (makes a scary sound) and then I slowly open the valve. I open maybe a half inch and leave it alone for 10 min.. and then turn again maybe 1cm.. and leave it alone again. I repeat this until it's absolutely silent ( or the sound level you're comfortable with). Mine is basically silent on my reefer 250.

Btw the reason for waiting a few min is you give the system time to equalize. Hope that helps.

Ok so I just completed the calibration and restarted the pump

However now when I start up, the green led is solid. As it should be in constant speed mode
But I have to no speed control. The dial will make no change

Any ideas?

Yeah I'm not able to change speed and that's how it supposed to work. You can look at manual and change different modes, but if u want a stronger flow then you need to recalibrate for that.

Is your return loud? I turned my return bladder knob all the way to the right to close it so the overflow was flowing then slowly turned it to the left till it was going down the correct pipe then fine tuned it from there. Not sure if this was part of your problem as well, I had to get a gate valve to slow my DC pump so everything could sink up
