Just noticed today my candy cane coral is receeding from the base. My perameters have been stable. Ph 7.8, alk 8, mag 1300, cal 430, phos 0.02, nitrate 20. No sever changes in the last 3 weeks.

Had a very small hammer receed about a week ago. Didn't extend for a few days so I ended up just removing it. I am at a complete loss as to what could be causing this. Been testing everyrhing twice a week at least for the last month.

It could be due to to flow or lighting. I had a candy cane about the same size as yours it did the same thing. mine was due to flow it was getting blasted and it was blowing tissue off. I had a hammer receded because of flow also. after I fixed that they all been doing better.

This one is on the face of the rock that gets lower flow. I could try to increase it.

I have an Ai prime 16. 8" above the surface and the candy cane is.about 8" below. Running at 45w it should have enough par, although ive never tested.

It definitely can be the flow which is something I am battling with this tank.

Do you feed your candy canes?

I've got my prime at 80% on my 15 gallon softie tank, mainly mushrooms and zoa's. I don't know what 45 w equates to percentage wise

I feed Reef Blizzard pellets only when my phosphate is low, which hasn’t been very often lately. I honestly don’t notice much difference between feeding and not feeding.

I also recently changed my flow by adding a new pump. That happened right after treating for bryopsis, which threw my parameters off for about a month. The goni didn’t love that, but the candy cane coral was unaffected.
