Howdy
I have a photo but can't figure out how to post it.
My son broke down his established tank, it had fallen into disrepair and I did not want his rock going into the trash. I set up a 55 with a sump and all the other stuff and took it in.
This algae was present on the rock when I got it. He said he thought it was bryopsis, but it doesn't look like it to me. I did try a dose of reef flux, did not touch it. After I got past an ich breakout (lost a tang), I moved a medium sized Blue Tang in, some snails, and five urchins. Its just not going away. I mean the tang picks all day long with a fat belly, and the urchins chew it down to bare rock, but I don't see a difference. Urchins are too slow. I have tried taking scissors and cutting it down, but it grows back.
Oh, since I can't post a photo, all I can do is describe it. Long thin "stem", with a round top like a dinner plate. I have had other species of caulerpa, prolifera, grape, mexicana, etc but this stuff is different. I have googled "saltwater algae with round leaves", nothing comes up that looks like this stuff.
I suppose I could get more urchins and overpower it, but when they chew it down then somebody is going to starve.
Anybody have an idea what this is, so I can then form a plan on how to get rid of it, or at least knock it down so I can put some coral in?
