Bought this guy as a "clarks clownfish", but his coloration is so much darker than the others you see in the trade. Is this because he was a wild fish, is it just a juvenile thing? Ive never seen them have one with this coloration. Since he is so small (probably still under 1") he is ideal to pair up with another clown. I was almost hoping that he would be an Allards clown...but I realize that the chances of this are slim. If people need a better picture, I will try again...this was the best I could do with how fast he beats around that anchor coral. Thanks in advance.

If I want it to pair...should I try to get one of similar coloration...or would a "tank raised" work. I would prefer one of the same coloration just because it would look better.

its could be allardi

Most juvi clowns of the clarki complex look very similar when young.

It could be an allardi but you cant tel till you see if the third stripe is a stripe or a completely white tail.

And now! (Different male, but same female.)

They just get darker with age, so a tank bred one should be just fine.

So...if it IS an allards...the tail will be a stripe, rather than completely white?

They...as in Allards? So you think there is a chance I scored an Allards Troylee?

Thanks for all the help guys.

I got this clown when he was small...he still is only an inch. Bought him at about the size of my pinky nail. The one I just bought which is deffinitely a clarkii. (bought from the same store though so who knows what it will turn out to actually be ha.) I am starting to think now that it might be an Amphiprion akindynos...let me know what you think.

Heres a picture of the akindynos: Akindynos Clownfish (Pair)

Tough to tell by the pic, but the heart shaped tail and wite upper edge to the tail suggest it might be allardi.

My allardi:

I know that is a crappy picture, but my tank has a TON of flow...and when that picture was taken that clown was really small. I will be home all day tomorrow, and will snag some pics of both clowns. The old (presumed allardi...which I thought was lucky me, until I bought a clarkii bc of advice on here and now I am thinking its an allardi again) and the new (same difficult to photograph size as when I took the original photo. So we will see how this goes. Presumed clarkii 99.9% certainty)

Finally got the pictures...took half an hour...they still arent that great, but here are the guys now. Anyways...since being added to the tank the new little "clarkii" has darkened up a lot. Originally there was some bullying between the two...then the new clarkii found a different "host" which happens to be a large toadstool. The aggression seems to be over...and the new clown has gotten a lot darker. No idea what that really means though.

The old-er fish is about twice as big...probably almost 2"...dont have much to say about him other than here is an updated...and hopefully better picture. Flash was the only way I could do it, so my aquarium kinda looks a little grungy. :squigglemouth:

Hope this gives us something a little more definitive. Ill keep trying for better pictures in the meantime I guess.
