I used your photo threads on nano-reef and now that thread is a sticky (because of that info). great info guys. congrats on another sticky

Metal halides are definitely problematic for full tank shots. I'm too lazy to try and fix it in real space (with a lighitng rig) or by using curves, so I take full advantage of the Shadows & Highlights feature in Photoshop. ;)

Sorry to be a downer, but let me see if I understand this correctly. You copied and pasted a thread from here, and posted it on another forum? You do say that you made it clear that you told them it was Jr. and Surfn's work, but did you ask Jr or Surfn BEFORE you posted it?

As a pro photographer I would feel angry if someone took one of my photo stickies and moved it without asking. I am certainly NOT speaking for Jr. or Surfn, but I am expressing how I would feel about this type of situation.

Maybe you did talk to the 2 original posters before you copied there hard work, and I am in the wrong, however if you didn't, then I believe you owe both of them apologies, and a request to take the stickies down to the forum admin on the other site.

My .02 is all.

I dont think i agree with you. If some one post something here, and doesnt put anything about dont copy with out my consent,then it is able to be used. I mean you have to relieze by posting things on a site like this, its most likely going to get copied at some point or another.

Actually with photos and content a photographers work is COPYRIGHTED the moment the shutter is pressed. That means reposting an image without the photographers permission can land you in hot water. By posting an image to a forum, that copyright is STILL in effect, even though I don't own R2R, I can post images here that remain MY PROPERTY. I just recently had to point that out to another board admin, who mistakenly thought that any image I posted on HIS board became HIS property. Not so. Oh, and forum rules cannot supersede federal law.

LOL its only copyrighted when you register your photos for copyright protection. Not saying you have to register all your pictures but you do have to register yourself. Until you do that its free game for EVERYONE.

NO! Each photograph is copyrighted upon CREATION, however to sue for damages that photo must be registered. Violation of copyright can be handled without suing for damages.

Reprinting a photo of mine without my permission is a violation of the law regardless of whether that image is registered or not. I can even register the image AFTER I see the violation and still sue. Now, do I think that Jr, or Surfn will sue, heck no, but a breach of etiquette has certainly transpired in my opinion.

I will leave the decision to those guys, but honestly I don't see it as a big deal since credit was given to them and us at R2R.

I see your point Poseidon as well, but those two guys are out to help all reefers not just R2R. It's good to have this kind of info here to pass on to others. Other sites would be mad probably, but as the owner of R2R and all post belonging to us here, I am not upset. Just keep linking people here! LOL!

Even if a person hires a photographer to take pictures of a wedding, for example, the photographer will own the copyright in the photographs unless the copyright in the photographs is transferred, in writing and signed by the copyright owner, to another person.

Notice there is NOTHING about registering the image first. Also, the SUBJECT of a the photo:

The subject of the photograph generally has nothing to do with the ownership of the copyright in the photograph.

So even if I take YOUR picture, you have no rights to that image.

I know Rev, I count Jr as a friend of mine. Just sharing my knowledge on copyright infringement. As a pro photographer, I have to know the law to enforce it with my clients. Unfortunately in my business, and EXPERIENCE some photographers will STEAL images from other sites and pass them off as their own. Can you imagine how it makes you feel to see your image on another photographers website, with them claiming that THEY took it? I know that is different then this case, but it is similar. Another board is getting credit and traffic for work that was done for the benefits of R2R members. There are a few sites that I WON'T even log on too, because of the owners, and others that I frequent very less often. I like this board, but there are some that are just out of control!

Your wrong, i am a criminal justice major,its only copyrighted if the person copyrights it. Just bc you post it, its not your property and can be used by others unless stated.

I just read up on copyright laws for photos and they are only copyrighted if the person who created them registered for copyright protection. You dont have to register every photo just yourself as a photographer. Poseidon also seems like the type of person who isnt willing to help others out and only thinks of himself. Just my opinion of what little I have seen. That doesnt mean he is a bad person cause well I dont know him.

if you read what was posted the other site IS NOT getting credit for the works of a couple people on this board. It is getting traffic but not the credit as was stated by the op of this thread.
