Ok so I have a huge hunk of anthelia (waving hand) coral in my display. I want it out before it take over. I don't want to kill it and most people don't want it. I was thinking about putting it in my sump. I have a light on the sump because of the mangroves. Has anyone ever put coral in the sump? Is anthelia a filter feeder?

I was wondering the same thing about whether it's a filter feeder when I cut it out of my system a few months ago. I figured it couldn't hurt water chemistry, so I threw it in the fuge portion of my sump along with some kenya tree. It's far from happy down there (barely growing) but it is opening and has been alive for a few months. HTH

they'll filter feed-but still need light for surviving. The light you have int he sump may work out, just use standard judgement for how strong it is and all that. If the spectrum isn't right, no biggy as the coral will still grow, but the color will probably turn pretty yucky.

That said-there shouldn't be any difference in your sump water from your main tank water, so no reason for it not to grow there besides any of the obvious ones (too high of flow, too little light, too high of light, etc)

I don't know about that exact coral but I know Xenia was real popular in the sump for supposedly removing nitrates...
